Mumbai, July 27: Gold prices in Mumbai climbed on Monday, picking up momentum after remaining unchanged a day earlier. The 24K rate rose ₹93 per gram, while 22K gold gained ₹85 as prices continued to recover from Friday’s steep decline.

The 24-karat gold rate increased to ₹14,586 per gram from ₹14,493 on Sunday. The 22-karat rate moved up to ₹13,370 per gram from ₹13,285, while 18-karat gold gained ₹69 to ₹10,939 per gram.

The latest rise takes gold further away from the July 24 low, but prices have yet to fully recover the losses suffered toward the end of last week. For buyers, that means rates are higher than they were over the weekend but still below Wednesday’s recent peak.

Gold Rebounds After a Volatile Week

Gold has seen some sharp swings in Mumbai over the past several sessions.

The 24K rate stood at ₹14,329 per gram on July 19 before climbing for three consecutive days. A ₹17 increase on July 20 was followed by a ₹76 rise on July 21 and a much larger ₹229 jump on July 22, which took the rate to ₹14,651.

The trend reversed quickly. Prices fell ₹33 on July 23 and then dropped another ₹185 on July 24, bringing 24K gold down to ₹14,433 per gram.

Since then, the market has been clawing back those losses. Gold gained ₹60 on July 25, held steady on July 26 and added ₹93 on Monday. At ₹14,586, the 24K rate has now recovered ₹153 from Friday’s level and sits just ₹65 below the July 22 high.

For a 10-gram 22K purchase, that difference translates into an additional ₹2,350 in the underlying gold value compared with July 18.

Why Do Gold Prices Change Every Day?

Gold rates in Mumbai are influenced by developments in both international and domestic markets. Global bullion prices play an important role, while changes in the rupee against the US dollar affect the cost of importing gold into India.

Interest-rate expectations, inflation, central bank demand and geopolitical uncertainty can also move bullion prices. As these factors change, local gold rates can see sizeable daily swings even when jewellery demand itself has not changed much.

Conclusion

Gold prices in Mumbai strengthened on July 27, with 24K gold rising ₹93 to ₹14,586 per gram. The 22K rate gained ₹85 to ₹13,370, while 18K gold increased ₹69 to ₹10,939.

The latest move continues the recovery from the July 24 sell-off. With 24K gold now just ₹65 below its July 22 high of ₹14,651, a large part of last week’s decline has already been recovered.
