Mumbai, November 5: Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, PC Jeweller and units of DSP Gold ETF featured among the most actively traded stocks by volume on the NSE on Thursday, November 5. Vodafone Idea gained 2.15% after announcing an AI-focused partnership with PwC India, while YES Bank advanced 2.10% amid developments surrounding its Rs 8,415-crore AT-1 bond dispute. DSP Gold ETF extended its rally, tracking a recovery in international gold prices, while PC Jeweller edged lower ahead of Dhanteras. Here’s what drove trading activity in these stocks.

PC Jeweller Limited (down 0.25%)

PC Jeweller shares slipped on Thursday after gaining in the previous session, when buying interest spread across jewellery stocks ahead of the Dhanteras festival.

Jewellery stocks attracted investor attention on Wednesday amid expectations of increased consumer spending during the festive and wedding seasons. Dhanteras, considered one of the most auspicious occasions for purchasing gold and jewellery, falls on Friday, November 6, this year.

Investors are now assessing whether the anticipated festive demand will translate into stronger sales and earnings for organised jewellery retailers. The December quarter is a crucial period for the sector, with Dhanteras, Diwali and the subsequent wedding season typically driving a significant portion of annual jewellery purchases.

Also known as Dhantrayodashi, Dhanteras marks the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. Buying gold, silver, jewellery, coins and other valuables on the occasion is considered auspicious, making it an important sales event for jewellery businesses across the country.

However, elevated gold prices have influenced consumer buying behaviour, with demand increasingly shifting towards lightweight ornaments, smaller-ticket purchases and the exchange of old gold. Investors will be watching these trends closely to gauge whether jewellery retailers can sustain sales growth and protect margins despite higher precious metal prices.

Vodafone Idea Limited (up 2.15%)

Vodafone Idea shares gained on Thursday, November 5, after the telecom operator announced a partnership with PwC India to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-led solutions for enterprises across multiple industries. The collaboration will focus on building and scaling enterprise AI applications through a dedicated innovation facility, as the telecom company looks to expand its digital and enterprise services portfolio.

The company launched its ‘Vi Intelligence’ proposition on Wednesday, which will drive AI-led transformation across its operations and services for customers and enterprise clients. The initiative will be anchored by the Vi Intelligence Lab, developed in partnership with PwC India, combining Vodafone Idea’s digital infrastructure with the consulting firm’s expertise in AI and enterprise transformation.

Under the collaboration, PwC India will establish a dedicated Centre of Excellence team, co-located with Vodafone Idea in Mumbai. The team will work with the telecom operator to develop, incubate and scale AI solutions aimed at addressing business challenges across industries.

The initiative will bring together AI leaders, startups, research ecosystems and enterprises to explore applications of artificial intelligence across consumer, enterprise and operational functions. The partnership is also expected to help organisations integrate AI into their existing business processes and improve operational efficiency.

According to Vodafone Idea, the lab will focus on three strategic pillars: agentic AI, assistive AI, and sovereign and responsible AI. These will guide the development of solutions designed to move businesses beyond conventional automation towards more intelligent and increasingly autonomous processes.

The Vi Intelligence Lab will also work on improving customer engagement and service experiences while transforming cross-functional business processes. The initiative will include AI skilling and capability-building programmes aimed at accelerating adoption of the technology across the workforce.

Yes Bank Limited (up 2.10%)

YES Bank shares advanced on Thursday, extending gains from the previous session, as investors continued to monitor developments surrounding the reinstatement of Rs 8,415 crore worth of additional tier-1 (AT-1) bonds written off by the lender in March 2020.

The latest investor focus follows a report yesterday of a demand by the Yes Bank AT-1 Bond Holders Association for clarity on the payment schedule after a deadline issued by a debenture trustee expired. Bondholders are seeking a definitive timeline for the repayment of their investments following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in their favour.

The dispute stems from the Supreme Court’s October 15 judgment dismissing appeals filed by YES Bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Centre against a Bombay High Court order that had struck down the bank’s March 2020 decision to write off the Rs 8,415 crore AT-1 bonds. The ruling has revived expectations of compensation or reinstatement for affected bondholders, although the precise mechanism and timeline for implementation remain key issues for investors.

DSP Mutual Fund – DSP Gold ETF (up 1.39%)

Units of DSP Mutual Fund’s DSP Gold ETF extended their gains on Thursday, November 5, tracking a sharp recovery in international bullion prices.

The rally in gold prices continued for a second consecutive session, with spot gold rising 1.6% to $4,123.71 per ounce, its highest level in more than two weeks. Bullion gained 3.4% on Wednesday, reclaiming the $4,000-per-ounce mark, supported by a weaker US dollar and declining US Treasury yields following the Democrats’ victory in the US midterm elections.

The political developments have raised expectations of reduced geopolitical tensions and a possible resolution to the US-Iran conflict. Lower crude oil prices have also eased inflation concerns, potentially reducing pressure on interest rates and improving the appeal of non-yielding assets such as gold.
