New Delhi, August 25: Gold prices in India held largely steady on Tuesday morning, with a marginal uptick across all three major purity categories after Monday’s sharp rally. Today’s national rate for gold stands at ₹1,63,980 per 10 grams for 24 karat gold (99.9% purity), ₹1,50,310 per 10 grams for 22 karat gold (91.6% purity), and ₹1,22,940 per 10 grams for 18 karat gold (75% purity). On a per-gram basis, that works out to ₹16,398 for 24K, ₹15,031 for 22K, and ₹12,294 for 18K gold, while a full kilogram of 24K gold is now valued at approximately ₹1,63,98,000.

The move marks a modest gain of just ₹10 per 10 grams across all three purity categories over Monday’s closing levels of ₹1,63,970, ₹1,50,300 and ₹1,22,930 for 24K, 22K and 18K gold, respectively — equivalent to a per-gram rise of just ₹1. After Monday’s sharp jump of ₹4,690 per 10 grams, Tuesday’s near-flat move suggests the rally has paused, with the market digesting the previous session’s gains rather than extending them.

Gold has long been considered a reliable hedge against inflation, and its steadiness near record levels on Tuesday is likely to keep investors comfortable holding the metal as an important part of a diversified portfolio during periods of global uncertainty. Buyers looking for exact pricing can use the Gold Rate Calculator to work out the final cost, including making charges and GST, before heading to a jewellery counter.

Dealers attributed Tuesday’s flat-to-firm move to a pause in global spot gold prices following Monday’s sharp rebound, with investors turning cautious ahead of fresh cues on the US Federal Reserve’s policy path. Simmering US-Iran tensions and elevated crude oil prices continued to lend some underlying support to safe-haven demand, even as broader risk sentiment stayed mixed and Indian equity benchmarks traded choppy through the morning session.

Physical demand at the retail level remained steady, dealers said, with the ongoing wedding and festive season in several parts of the country continuing to support jewellery counter footfall even with prices holding near record highs. Market watchers noted that a stretch of range-bound trading after a sharp rally often gives retail buyers a window to make purchases without chasing a fast-moving market.

City-Wise Gold Rates on Tuesday

Gold rates across India’s major cities largely mirrored the national trend on Tuesday, with most markets quoting identical rates to the national average across all three purity categories. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune are all pricing 24K gold at ₹1,63,980 per 10 grams, 22K gold at ₹1,50,310 per 10 grams, and 18K gold at ₹1,22,940 per 10 grams — in line with the national rate. Delhi continues to command the highest gold rates among the ten cities, with 24K gold priced at ₹1,64,130 per 10 grams, a premium of ₹150 over the national average that has held steady in recent sessions. The gain over Monday was uniform at ₹10 per 10 grams across all ten cities and all three purities, keeping relative premiums intact.

Vadodara and Ahmedabad are quoted marginally higher than the national rate too, with 24K gold priced at ₹1,64,030 per 10 grams in both cities, a premium of about ₹50. Chennai stands out for its 18K pricing, coming in at ₹1,28,010 per 10 grams — a significantly wider gap of about ₹5,070 above the national 18K rate, even as its 24K and 22K rates match the national average exactly. This divergence in Chennai’s 18K rate has been a recurring pattern in recent sessions and reflects local market conventions around 18K jewellery pricing rather than any difference in the underlying metal cost.

Retail buyers are reminded that quoted bullion rates are indicative, and actual billed prices at jewellery counters will vary once making charges, wastage and applicable GST are added on top of the base metal value. Investors who are looking to diversify beyond physical gold can also explore the list of Gold ETFs in India, which track bullion prices without the need to store physical metal.

Market watchers said Tuesday’s near-flat move, coming a day after gold’s sharpest single-session gain of the week, points to the metal consolidating rather than reversing its uptrend. With volatility still elevated and US-Iran tensions unresolved, dealers expect prices to remain choppy through the rest of the week, and advised buyers to track rates closely rather than assume today’s levels will hold through the coming sessions.
