New Delhi, Sept 7: Gold prices across India held broadly steady in early trade on Monday, with the national rate for 24 karat gold (99.9% purity) standing at ₹1,54,790 per 10 grams, 22 karat gold (91.6% purity) priced at ₹1,41,890 per 10 grams, and 18 karat gold (75% purity) available at ₹1,16,090 per 10 grams. The figures place the metal firmly in the range it has occupied through recent sessions, with dealers describing the mood as watchful rather than directional as traders wait for fresh cues from global bullion markets before committing to larger positions.

Gold has long served as a dependable hedge against inflation, and Monday’s steady rates reinforce that reputation even as the broader market continues to weigh a mix of global and domestic signals. Buyers planning a purchase can use a Gold Rate Calculator to work out the final billed price, including making charges, wastage and applicable GST, before heading to a jewellery counter. Rates quoted here are indicative national averages sourced from reputed jewellers and are updated through the day; actual counter prices can vary modestly from one showroom to the next.

Dealers said the steadiness in today’s rates reflects a broader pause in global spot gold, with investors largely in a holding pattern ahead of key macroeconomic data expected later in the week. A stable US dollar has also kept bullion prices from swinging sharply in either direction, traders noted, even as safe-haven demand continues to provide an underlying floor for the metal. With no major geopolitical or economic surprises overnight, market participants expect gold to trade in a relatively narrow band through the first half of the week.

Physical demand at the retail level has remained resilient, jewellers said, supported by a mix of wedding-season purchases and steady festive-linked buying in several parts of the country. Retailers noted that footfall at jewellery counters has held up well despite the elevated price levels, a sign that buyers are increasingly willing to adjust the quantity purchased rather than defer purchases altogether.

City-Wise Gold Rates Today

Gold rates varied only modestly across India’s major cities on Monday, with most centres pricing 24K, 22K and 18K gold in close alignment with the national average. Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune are all quoting 24K gold at ₹1,54,790 per 10 grams and 22K gold at ₹1,41,890 per 10 grams, matching the national rate exactly. Chennai continues to command the highest rates among the ten cities tracked, with 24K gold priced at ₹1,56,660 per 10 grams, while Delhi follows at ₹1,54,940 per 10 grams. Vadodara and Ahmedabad are pricing the metal marginally above the national average at ₹1,54,840 per 10 grams for 24K gold.

Chennai’s premium over the rest of the country remains most pronounced in the 18K category, where its rate of ₹1,21,300 per 10 grams stands well above the ₹1,16,090 quoted in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune. Market watchers attribute the city’s persistently higher rates to local demand patterns and pricing conventions that have historically kept Chennai’s bullion quotes a step above the national average. Retail buyers are reminded that these are indicative bullion rates, and actual billed prices at jewellery counters will vary once making charges and GST are added on top of the base metal value.

Jewellery Stocks Today

Shares of listed jewellery companies were mixed in morning trade on Monday, with PC Jeweller emerging as the standout gainer while Titan Company was the lone decliner among the four counters tracked. Kalyan Jewellers India and Thangamayil Jewellery also traded firmly in the green, adding a further 0.62% and 2.03% respectively, while Titan slipped marginally by 0.24% amid a broader consolidation in the stock.

PC Jeweller: Rally Extends Further

PC Jeweller shares climbed nearly 9.5% on Monday, building on a recovery that has been gathering pace over recent sessions. The stock’s order book on Monday morning showed heavy buying interest, with roughly two-thirds of total order quantity concentrated on the buy side, underscoring the strength of retail and trader appetite for the counter even at its elevated percentage gains. With the stock trading just below ₹13, PC Jeweller’s moves remain unusually large relative to its peers, a pattern typical of low-priced, high-volume counters reacting sharply to sentiment and news flow.

Kalyan Jewellers India also saw a steady climb through the morning session, with its order book showing sell-side pressure slightly outweighing buy-side interest even as the stock price ticked higher. Thangamayil Jewellery posted the second-strongest gain among the four counters, with its intraday chart showing a clear reversal from early softness to a firm afternoon climb. Titan Company, meanwhile, traded in a narrow band through the morning after opening lower than its previous close, with its order book showing a modest tilt toward sellers.

Market watchers said Monday’s mixed but broadly positive performance in jewellery stocks tracks the steadiness seen in underlying gold prices, with investors continuing to treat listed jewellers as a proxy for bullion demand trends. Dealers expect gold’s near-term path to remain sensitive to global cues through the week, with a quiet data calendar likely to keep both bullion and jewellery counters range-bound in the absence of fresh triggers.
