New Delhi, Oct 9: Gold prices have increased on Friday. According to Goodreturns.in, 24-carat gold (99.9 per cent purity) costs Rs. 15,071 per gram in most cities. 22-carat gold (91.6 per cent purity) costs Rs. 13,815 per gram, while 18-carat gold is priced at Rs. 11,303 per gram.

Yesterday, prices stood at Rs. 14,957, Rs. 13,710 and Rs. 11,218 per gram for 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold, respectively. This represents an increase of Rs. 114, Rs. 105 and Rs. 85, respectively, translating into gains of approximately 0.76-0.77 per cent.

For 10 grams, prices in the Mumbai cluster of cities stand at Rs. 1,50,710 for 24-carat gold, Rs. 1,38,150 for 22-carat gold and Rs. 1,13,030 for 18-carat gold. This means buyers will have to pay an additional Rs. 1,140, Rs. 1,050 and Rs. 850, respectively, compared with yesterday.

However, the national-level prices listed on the website are Rs. 14,956, Rs. 13,709 and Rs. 11,217 per gram for 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold, respectively. These rates are lower than the prices listed for individual cities. We have therefore used the city-level prices to calculate the daily increase.

The price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold is Rs. 1,530 higher than Monday’s price of Rs. 1,49,180. Gold prices in India depend on international gold prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. The increase could therefore be due to a rise in global gold prices, a fall in the value of the rupee, or both.

The NSE shows the USD-INR futures contract expiring on October 28 at Rs. 96.9300 as of 9:59 am. Stock markets have also started the day on a positive note, with the Nifty trading at 22,457.55 as of 10 am, up 225.75 points, or 1.02 per cent.

Most jewellers deal in 22-carat gold, which is priced at Rs. 1,38,150 per 10 grams in the Mumbai cluster. This is Rs. 1,050 higher than Thursday’s price.

Prices across cities remain broadly similar to the previous session. Delhi continues to be the most expensive city, with 24-carat gold priced at Rs. 15,086 per gram. This is Rs. 15 higher than the rate of Rs. 15,071 per gram in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune. On Thursday, the difference between Delhi and these cities was Rs. 13.

A similar trend can be seen in 22-carat and 18-carat gold prices, with Delhi charging Rs. 15 more per gram than the Mumbai cluster. Vadodara and Ahmedabad have prices of Rs. 15,076 per gram, which is Rs. 5 higher than the Mumbai cluster. In Chennai, 18-carat gold is priced at Rs. 11,350 per gram, Rs. 47 higher than the Mumbai cluster.

Every row in the three tables shows a rise. In 24K gold, seven cities saw an increase of ₹1,140 per 10 grams, while Delhi, Vadodara and Ahmedabad saw ₹1,160. The 22K rate went up by ₹1,050 and the 18K rate by ₹850 in all ten cities. The 22K move matters most for wedding and festival jewellery, where ₹1,050 more per 10 grams adds up quickly on larger purchases.

Keep in mind that these are bullion rates. Jewellery will cost more than these rates because you will have to pay making charges, wastage charges and 3% GST on the value of the gold. GST alone adds about ₹4,521 on a 10-gram purchase of 24K gold at today’s rate. If you want to invest in gold but do not want to worry about storing it or its purity, you can consider gold ETFs. These ETFs track gold prices and do not require you to physically own the metal. These are indicative prices, so please check with your nearest jeweller or dealer for the final rate before making a purchase.

With the festive season approaching and Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali still to come, buyers will be watching whether the rate keeps climbing or settles at current levels. At ₹15,071 per gram, 50 grams of 24K gold costs ₹7,53,550 and 100 grams costs ₹15,07,100 before making charges and GST. A 22K chain weighing 20 grams would cost ₹2,76,300 in gold value alone at ₹13,815 a gram, which is ₹2,100 more than on Thursday.
