ICICI Bank shares gained as markets saw a day of broad-based profit booking
Indian equity markets ended the day in red today, 24th October, 2025. Markets remained in red through most of the day. Profit booking was seen in a number of stocks. Nifty 50 closed the day, down by 0.37%. Sensex closed the day, down by 0.41%.
Top gainers & losers
Top three gainers at Nifty 50 today were Hindalco, ICICI Bank, and Bharti Airtel. ICICI Bank shares gained today after the decline of the past few days. The stock closed the day, up by 1.05% at Rs 1,378. Hindalco shares gained due to rise in aluminum prices.
Top three losers at Nifty 50 today were Cipla, Hindustan Unilever and Max Health. Cipla shares saw profit booking today. Hindustan Unilever shares lost after the company posted its September quarter result, yesterday.
Decline was more due to profit booking
All the broad market indices ended the day in red today. This shows that selling pressure was there across the market. But market volatility also went down. Nifty India VIX index ended the day, down by 1.21%. This indicates that the selling today was not driven by any fear or risk but was mainly due to profit booking.
Nifty Metal index top gainer today
Nifty Metal Index was the top gainer among sectoral indices today. It ended the day, up by 1.03%. Nifty FMCG index was the top loser today, among sectoral indices. It ended the day, down by 0.75%.
Market breadth was very negative
Market breadth was very negative today. At NSE, 1235 stocks advanced in the day. 1849 stock declined. The advance-to-decline ratio today was less than one. 60 stocks touched 52-week high today. 39 stocks touched 52-week low.
