Indian equity markets are seeing sharp declines in the first hours of trading today. This, after the higher Trump tariffs came into force yesterday. At 10:45 a.m. 8th August, 2025, Nifty 50 is down by 161.50 points or 0.66%. Sensex is down by 508 points or 0.63%. Just 10 stocks that make up Nifty 50 are in green at this time. The rest 40 are in decline.

Top 3 gainers & losers

Top three gainers at Nifty 50 at this time are Titan, NTPC and ITC. Top three losers at this time are Bharti Airtel, Adani Enterprises, and Shriram Finance.

All the broad market indices are in red at this time. The biggest loser is Nifty Midcap 100 index. It is down by 0.95% at this time. A lot of midcap companies are going to be severely hit by the high US tariffs.

IT, Realty indices biggest losers at this time

All the sectoral indices, except for Nifty Media Index and Nifty Oil & Gas index, are in red at this time. The biggest losers at this time are Nifty IT index and Nifty Realty index. An economic slowdown or recession caused by higher US tariffs will be a severe blow to the realty sector.

Volatility jumps by more than 2%

Nifty VIX index has jumped by more than 2%. This means that markets currently expect that volatility will increase over the next 30 days.

Market breadth sharply negative

Market breadth is sharply negative at this time. At NSE 1100 stocks are gaining this time; 1534 stocks are declining.
