Key Developments in June 2025

  • Mine Opening Approval: Utkal A Mine received opening permission. The mine has a peak rated capacity of 25 MT, adding major incremental capacity to the captive coal portfolio.
  • Block Allocation Milestone: Vesting orders were issued for three new coal blocks. This brings in the cumulative number of allocated coal blocks to over 200. Thereby this forms a critical milestone in India’s energy self-reliance roadmap.

Strategic Impact

The growth in domestic coal output plays a pivotal role in supporting power generation, steel manufacturing, and cement production, ensuring critical raw material supply chains remain intact. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to driving domestic coal availability and reducing import dependency to strengthen India’s industrial backbone.
