Mumbai, October 15: Jindal Stainless has put 10 electric trucks into service for finished goods transportation for the first time, adding another leg to its shift towards cleaner logistics. The trucks will run on routes connecting its Jajpur plant with Kharagpur and Kolkata.

The new trucks join a fleet that already includes vehicles running on alternative fuels. Jindal Stainless operates 80 LNG trucks to move finished goods from its Jajpur and Hisar facilities to western India. It has also started deploying CNG trucks to carry imported cargo from Dhamra to Jaipur and runs 60 CNG buses for employee transport.

The company expects its mix of electric, LNG and CNG vehicles to move around 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of cargo each month. Based on estimated cargo volumes and travel distances, the shift is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 71 tonnes a month compared with diesel-powered transportation.
