Market Update: Sensex, Nifty 50, Gold Price, and Silver Price Today

Mumbai, February 1, 2026: Indian financial markets traded with measured moves during the special Sunday session. Investors stayed cautious ahead of the Union Budget 2026–27 presentation later in the day. Equity markets inched up, while gold and silver prices remained under pressure due to recent volatility.
Sensex And Nifty 50 Trade Higher In Morning Session
As of 10:42 AM IST on February 1, 2026, the BSE Sensex was trading at 82,501.73, up 231.95 points or 0.28%. The Nifty 50 was quoted at 25,377.80. It gained 57.15 points or 0.23%.
Market participants adopted a cautious but constructive stance. This was done with selective buying seen in index heavyweights. Trading activity remained steady as investors positioned themselves ahead of key policy announcements expected later in the day.
Gold Prices Remain Under Pressure On MCX
Gold prices extended losses in the special trading session. MCX gold April futures opened at ₹151,610 per 10 grams. These were compared with the previous close of ₹152,345.
The movement reflected continued profit booking and subdued sentiment. This was followed by the recent sharp swings in global bullion markets. Traders tracked price action closely amid heightened volatility and shifting global cues.
Silver Prices Trade Lower Amid Elevated Volatility
Silver prices also remained weak during the morning session. MCX silver March futures opened at ₹284,826 per kilogram. This was down by 2.43% from the previous close of ₹291,925.
Participants noted that silver prices continued to see sharp intraday movements. This was done with selling pressure persisting after recent extreme price fluctuations.
Markets In Focus Ahead Of Union Budget 2026
Trading across equity and commodity markets is being conducted on a non-working day. This follows exchange notifications related to the presentation of the Union Budget.
The exchanges have stated that a live trading session is being held on February 1, 2026. This is based on the standard market timings. The Union Budget 2026–27 is scheduled to be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This would be done in the Lok Sabha today.
