Rupee depreciation adding to market anxiety

The continued slide of rupee against the dollar is increasing market anxiety. US President Donald Trump’s threat yesterday that he may impose higher tariffs on India’s rice imports has increased the nervousness in markets. India- US trade deal has still not been reached. A US trade delegation will visit New Delhi on 10^th and 11^th December for further talks on the trade deal.

US Federal Reserve will announce its monetary policy decision tomorrow. The broader expectation is that it will cut interest rate by 25 basis points. But the probability that it can throw up a surprise by keeping interest rate unchanged cannot be ruled out completely. There is wide divergence among the members of Federal Reserve Monetary policy committee regarding the prevailing economic scenario.
