Mumbai, July 8: It wasn’t a session marked by sweeping moves across the Nifty 50. Instead, gains were concentrated in a handful of stocks as investors picked their spots, while profit booking weighed on several recent outperformers.
Eternal ended as the index’s top gainer, rising 1.94% to ₹295.00. IT major Wipro added 1.15%, while Hindalco Industries gained nearly 1%. Bajaj Auto, Trent, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Cipla also finished in positive territory, though the advances remained measured.

Consumer names such as Tata Consumer Products and ITC also ended lower, while weakness extended to Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, NTPC, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

A Quiet Index, But Plenty of Stock-Specific Action
While the benchmark index remained relatively subdued, individual counters continued to react to stock-specific triggers and sectoral positioning. Defensive sectors attracted selective buying, whereas financials and a few consumer names witnessed mild profit booking after recent gains.
The Nifty 50 Gainers and Losers list reflected a market where investors were rotating between sectors rather than chasing broad-based momentum.
Conclusion
Eternal, Wipro and Hindalco finished among the session’s notable gainers, while Jio Financial Services, IndiGo and Shriram Finance bore the brunt of selling pressure. The day’s trading suggested a balanced market, with stock-specific moves continuing to outweigh any broad directional trend.
