Indian equity markets have started the day today, 5th December, 2025, marginally in green. At 9:40 a.m. IST, Nifty 50 is up 11.75 points or 0.045%. Sensex is up by 19.30 points or 0.023%.

The flat start indicates to the uncertainty in expectations regarding RBI monetary policy decision today. The RBI will announce its monetary policy decision at around 10:10 a.m. today. Some are expecting that RBI will go for a 25 basis points (0.25%) interest rate cut. Others are expecting that RBI will keep interest rate unchanged. This, because of the depreciation seen in rupee in the past 6 days. If RBI cuts down interest rate, then rupee will depreciate further. Further depreciation in rupee against the dollar will make India’ s imports more expensive. This in turn will push up inflation.

Shriram Finance Shares Top Gainer at This Time at Nifty 50

Top 3 gainers at Nifty 50 at this time are Shriram Finance, SBI Life and Eicher Motors. Top 3 losers are Indigo, Reliance and Tata Steel. Shriram Finance shares are gaining on the back of the expectation that RBI will announce a rate cut. A rate cut will benefit NBFCs like Shriram Finance. It will lower their cost of funding.

Indigo’s Shares Top Loser at This Time at Nifty 50

Indigo’s shares continue to face downward pressure. This because of the large number of cancellations of its flights over the past few days. However, this problem may get resolved over the next few days. DGCA is likely to waive off the implementation of new pilot rest rules for Indigo for a few days. Indigo has blamed this new rule for the large number of cancellations of its flights.
