Eternal ended 2.05% higher at ₹263.85, making it the top-performing Nifty 50 stock of the day. Bharti Airtel followed with a gain of 1.71% to ₹1,906.90, supported by strong investor interest in telecom stocks.

Tata Consultancy Services fell 3.06% to ₹2,135.90, while Tech Mahindra declined 2.33% to ₹1,414.00. HCL Technologies and Wipro also closed lower, extending weakness across the IT sector.

Defensive Stocks Offer Support

While technology stocks faced heavy selling, investors rotated into defensive sectors. Consumer-facing names such as Nestle India and ITC attracted buying interest, while power-related stocks including NTPC and Power Grid Corporation also ended higher.

Healthcare stocks remained resilient, with Apollo Hospitals and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries posting moderate gains.

Market Breadth Remains Mixed

The day’s trading reflected a clear divergence between sectors. Defensive and utility-oriented stocks helped cushion the broader market, but weakness in heavyweight IT names limited gains in the benchmark index.

Several banking stocks, including ICICI Bank, ended marginally higher, while Kotak Mahindra Bank and HDFC Bank closed in the red.

Conclusion

As of 4:00 PM IST on June 19, 2026, gains in telecom, power and consumer-focused stocks were outweighed by sharp declines in information technology counters. Eternal topped the Nifty 50 gainers list, while Infosys ended as the session’s biggest loser, reflecting continued pressure on the IT sector.
