Mumbai, May 26: Apollo Hospital led the Nifty 50 losers on Tuesday, declining 1.65% even as the broader market held broadly flat on mixed US-Iran war signals. Wipro, Bharti Airtel, Trent and TCS also featured among the index laggards, slipping between 1.16% and 1.62%, as healthcare, IT and telecom heavyweights faced selling pressure while metals and auto names attracted buying interest on the same day. The divergence between the day’s winners and losers pointed to a classic sector rotation session, with defensives and export-facing IT names underperforming as investors shifted toward domestic cyclicals.

Apollo Hospital: Top Loser

Apollo Hospital (NSE: APOLLOHOSP) was the biggest Nifty 50 loser on Tuesday, declining 1.65% to an LTP of ₹8,265 from its previous close of ₹8,404. The stock opened exactly at its previous close of ₹8,404, briefly touched a session high of ₹8,434 before sellers moved in sharply, dragging the counter to a session low of ₹8,228  an intraday swing of over ₹200 from the high. Traded value was approximately ₹258 crore. Apollo’s sharp decline on a day of broad market stability reflected profit-booking after a period of strong relative performance, with the defensive healthcare trade coming under pressure as investors rotated out of high-valuation hospitals and consumer healthcare names into value-oriented sectors.

Wipro

Wipro (NSE: WIPRO) fell 1.62% to an LTP of ₹203.49 from its previous close of ₹206.84, opening at ₹206.99 and touching a session high of ₹208.69 before sliding to a low of ₹202.94. With traded value of approximately ₹957 crore, Wipro was one of the most actively sold names among the day’s losers by value. The IT services major’s weakness reflected the broader cautious mood around the sector, with the stock drawing additional attention ahead of its June 5 buyback record date — a date that typically triggers pre-record positioning and volatility as arbitrageurs and long-term holders reassess their strategies.

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel (NSE: BHARTIARTL) slipped 1.48% to an LTP of ₹1,847 from its previous close of ₹1,874.80, opening at ₹1,874 and touching a session high matching the open before sellers drove the stock to a session low of ₹1,844.80. Traded value was approximately ₹1,077 crore, making it the highest-value loser on the index by some margin. Airtel’s decline reflected profit-booking in the telecom space after a strong run, with the stock retreating from elevated levels as investors assessed the near-term revenue outlook in a competitive landscape where tariff hike momentum has moderated.

Trent

Trent (NSE: TRENT) declined 1.42% to an LTP of ₹4,238.90 from its previous close of ₹4,300, opening at ₹4,290 and touching a session high of ₹4,310.30 before retreating to a session low of ₹4,230 — an intraday range of ₹80. Traded value was approximately ₹240 crore. The Tata Group retail major’s decline came as consumer discretionary and premium retail names faced selling pressure on a day when broader sentiment was subdued, with investors questioning near-term valuation comfort in high-multiple retail stocks amid still-elevated fuel costs that squeeze discretionary household spending.

Tata Consultancy Services(TCS)

Tata Consultancy Services (NSE: TCS) fell 1.16% to an LTP of ₹2,281.40 from its previous close of ₹2,308.20, opening at ₹2,308.20 and touching a session high of ₹2,327.90 before sellers drove the counter to a low of ₹2,272.40. Traded value was approximately ₹822 crore as India’s largest IT company attracted notable selling interest. TCS’s decline was part of a broader IT sector weakness on Tuesday, with the Nifty IT index slipping as a partial recovery in oil prices strengthened the rupee modestly, compressing the currency tailwind for dollar-earning technology exporters.

Titan Company

Titan Company (NSE: TITAN) rounded out the top six Nifty 50 losers, declining 1.06% to an LTP of ₹4,115 from its previous close of ₹4,159.20, opening at ₹4,151.90 and touching a session high of ₹4,160 before sliding to a session low of ₹4,091 — its sharpest intraday dip. Traded value was approximately ₹316 crore. The Tata Group consumer goods and jewellery major came under pressure as gold prices showed mild weakness and discretionary consumer spending sentiment remained cautious amid the fourth consecutive fuel price hike in eleven days, which has begun to weigh on urban household budgets and premium lifestyle consumption.
