Nikkei 225 up by more than 1600 points, today, on early Japan elections expectations

US President Donald Trump has said that countries doing trade with Iran will face additional import tariffs of 25%. He also said that White House is considering military strikes on Iran.
US equity markets recovered after losing at the start of the day and closed the day in green, yesterday, 12th January, 2026. Nasdaq closed the day, up by 62.56 points or 0.26%. S&P 500 ended the day, up by 10.99 points or 0.16%. Dow Jones ended the day, up by 86.13 points or 0.17%.
European markets also ended in green
European markets also closed the day in green yesterday. Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day, up by 18.83 points or 0.31%. Dax ended the day, up by 143.70 points or 0.57%. FTSE 100 ended the day, up by 16.10 points or 0.16%.
Nikkei shooting up today
Nikkei 225 is up by 1659.27 points or 3.19% in early trade today , 13th January, 2026. Japanese markets are high today on the expectation that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi may call for early elections so that the majority of her coalition government increases.
At 9:15 a.m. IST today, Hang Seng is up by 264 points or 0.99%. Shanghai Composite is down by 1.44 points or 0.035%. Kospi is up by 34.85 points or 0.75%.
Indian equity markets may see a mixed day today
Indian equity markets are likely to see a mixed day today. Newly appointed US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor’s comments yesterday that Indo-US trade deal talks will resume gave a boost to market sentiments. But President Trump’s announcement last evening that countries doing trade with Iran will face additional 25% tariff may also dampen market sentiments to some degree today.
