Mumbai, August 6: After spending nearly five years building one of India’s largest company-owned EV retail networks, Ola Electric is changing gears.

The electric two-wheeler maker said it will begin opening its sales and service network to dealer partners across the country, a move that signals a clear shift in how it plans to reach customers as the market becomes more competitive.

Instead of relying almost entirely on its own stores, Ola will now work with local dealer partners, who will gradually take charge of sales and after-sales service in their respective markets. Existing company outlets will increasingly focus on showcasing the brand and improving customer experience, while dealers will drive day-to-day business on the ground.

The rollout has already begun and the company expects to establish a fully operational dealer network by Diwali 2026.

For Ola, the change reflects how India’s EV market has evolved. When electric scooters were still a niche category, selling directly to customers helped the company build its brand quickly. Today, with EV adoption spreading beyond major cities, the company believes local entrepreneurs can help it expand faster and offer better service closer to customers.

Dealer partners will have access to Ola’s entire product portfolio, its technology ecosystem and a customer base of more than one million EV users. Besides vehicle sales, they will also earn from servicing, accessories and the company’s expanding energy business.

The company also announced that BVR Subbu, former President of Hyundai Motor India, will return as Senior Advisor to support the nationwide rollout. Subbu previously served on Ola Electric’s board and has mentored founder Bhavish Aggarwal.

Stock Market Snapshot

Investors welcomed the announcement, though the market reaction remained measured.

As of 1:08 PM IST on August 6, 2026, Ola Electric share price was trading at ₹41.62, up ₹0.18, or 0.43%.

The modest gain suggests investors see the announcement as a long-term strategic move rather than an immediate earnings catalyst. Even so, the shift could help Ola strengthen its presence in smaller cities and improve after-sales support, an area where traditional automakers have long enjoyed an advantage through established dealer networks.

Company Background

Ola Electric has built its business around a direct-to-consumer model since launching its first electric scooter. The company manufactures its vehicles at the Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu and has invested heavily in battery technology, software and charging infrastructure to create an integrated EV ecosystem.

The dealer-led model marks the next phase of that strategy, combining Ola’s technology and brand with the local market expertise of independent partners.

Conclusion

This isn’t simply an expansion of the retail network. It represents a rethink of how Ola wants to compete.

The company is moving away from an approach that made it stand out in its early years and towards a model that mirrors much of the traditional automobile industry. If the transition goes smoothly, it could help Ola improve customer reach, strengthen service quality and scale its business more efficiently as competition in India’s EV market continues to intensify.
