Petrol, Diesel Prices Today, August 26, 2026: Check Latest Rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore

Mumbai, August 26: Petrol and diesel prices remained sharply different across major Indian cities, with Hyderabad recording the highest rates for both fuels. Petrol prices ranged from ₹101.86 per litre in Lucknow to ₹115.69 per litre in Hyderabad, while diesel prices varied between ₹95.20 per litre in New Delhi and ₹103.82 per litre in Hyderabad.  

Oil prices extended their decline on Wednesday, falling over 2% as renewed talks between Iran and Oman raised hopes of a temporary reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude futures fell 2.6% to $86.2 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was down 2.5% at $80.3. Both benchmarks had dropped more than 3% in the previous session. 

Iran and Oman have resumed discussions on managing shipping through the Strait, with the two countries agreeing to explore a temporary navigational corridor and clear mines from the waterway. The Strait is a crucial energy chokepoint that handled about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before the war began in February. 

Oil prices also came under pressure after the U.S. began returning personnel to some diplomatic missions in the Middle East that had earlier been evacuated or downsized amid tensions with Iran. The move suggested Washington sees a reduced risk of near-term escalation, although some embassies will initially operate below full capacity. 

Adding to bearish pressure, the American Petroleum Institute reported that U.S. crude inventories rose by about 4.2 million barrels in the week ended August 21, well above the roughly 600,000-barrel increase expected by analysts polled by Reuters. Official U.S. Energy Information Administration inventory data was due later on Wednesday. 

Here’s a look at the latest petrol and diesel prices across major cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. 

Petrol Prices 

Petrol prices remained varied across major Indian cities, with rates ranging from ₹101.86 per litre in Lucknow to ₹115.69 per litre in Hyderabad. New Delhi recorded a petrol price of ₹102.12 per litre, while Ahmedabad and Gurgaon stood at ₹102.15 and ₹102.97 per litre, respectively. 

Among the southern markets, petrol was priced at ₹111.68 per litre in Bangalore, ₹107.76 in Chennai and ₹115.69 in Hyderabad. Mumbai’s petrol price stood at ₹111.21 per litre, while Pune recorded a rate of ₹112.02 per litre. 

In northern India, Jaipur had one of the higher petrol prices at ₹113.19 per litre, while Kolkata in the east recorded a rate of ₹113.51 per litre. Petrol was relatively cheaper in Lucknow at ₹101.86 per litre and Noida at ₹101.96 per litre, both below the ₹102 mark. 

Overall, Hyderabad had the highest petrol price among the cities listed at ₹115.69 per litre, followed by Kolkata at ₹113.51 and Jaipur at ₹113.19. Lucknow recorded the lowest rate at ₹101.86 per litre, followed by Noida at ₹101.96 and Ahmedabad at ₹102.15 per litre. 

Diesel Prices 

Diesel prices varied across major Indian cities, with rates ranging from ₹95.20 per litre in New Delhi to ₹103.82 per litre in Hyderabad. In the national capital, diesel was priced at ₹95.20 per litre, while Gurgaon, Noida and Lucknow recorded rates of ₹95.64, ₹95.44 and ₹95.36 per litre, respectively. 

Among southern cities, Hyderabad had the highest diesel price at ₹103.82 per litre. Bangalore and Chennai recorded diesel prices of ₹99.56 and ₹99.55 per litre, respectively, while Mumbai and Pune stood at ₹97.83 and ₹98.66 per litre. 

In western and eastern markets, diesel was priced at ₹98.27 per litre in Ahmedabad and ₹98.25 in Jaipur. Kolkata recorded a higher rate of ₹99.82 per litre, making it one of the more expensive markets in the list. 

Overall, Hyderabad had the highest diesel price among the cities covered, at ₹103.82 per litre, followed by Kolkata at ₹99.82 and Bangalore at ₹99.56. New Delhi recorded the lowest diesel price at ₹95.20 per litre, followed by Lucknow at ₹95.36 and Noida at ₹95.44 per litre.
