Mumbai, May 27:Petrol and diesel prices across major Indian metro cities and state capitals largely remained stable on Wednesday, with select cities witnessing marginal increases and declines following recent revisions by state-run oil marketing companies.
Fuel rates continue to remain in focus after fuel retailers raised petrol and diesel prices multiple times in recent days to offset pressure on marketing margins amid elevated global crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. While crude prices have eased slightly from recent highs, retail fuel prices across several cities continue to hover near elevated levels.
State-run fuel retailers on Monday raised petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time in 10 days as soaring crude oil prices continued to squeeze marketing margins.
Petrol prices were increased by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel rates went up by ₹2.71 per litre. Following the latest hike, petrol in Delhi is now priced at ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel costs ₹95.20 per litre.
Meanwhile, oil prices retreated on Wednesday after rallying nearly 4% in the previous session, as investors tracked developments in US-Iran negotiations and assessed the possibility of easing tensions in the Middle East.
Brent crude futures slipped around 1.5% to trade near $98 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude also declined toward the $92 mark. The pullback came as traders booked profits and reassessed the chances of immediate disruptions to global energy supplies.
The decline follows a volatile phase for oil markets, with crude prices witnessing sharp swings in recent sessions amid geopolitical concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for global oil shipments.
