Mumbai, May 26:Petrol and diesel prices in major Indian cities were largely stable on Tuesday with marginal revision in some cities owing to the fluctuation in the global prices. State-run fuel retailers had raised petrol and diesel prices yesterday for the fourth time in 10 days to tide over the strain on margins coming from rising crude oil prices.
Petrol prices were hiked by ₹2.61 per litre and diesel rates were increased by ₹2.71 per litre on Monday. After the latest revision, petrol in Delhi is retailing at ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel now costs ₹95.20 per litre.
Oil prices had fallen sharply on Monday, with Brent crude slipping below the $100-per-barrel mark amid optimism over progress in U.S.-Iran peace negotiations. However, Brent rebounded on Tuesday after fresh U.S. strikes in Iran dampened hopes of a near-term deal, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude extended its slide. Despite recent fluctuations, crude prices remain significantly higher than levels seen earlier this year.
