Petrol, Diesel Prices Today, August 5: Check Latest Fuel Rates In Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai And Other Major Cities 

Mumbai, August 5: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Wednesday, with state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) keeping retail fuel rates steady in most metro cities and state capitals. While fuel prices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and most other cities were unchanged, Bengaluru witnessed the sharpest increase in both petrol and diesel rates, while Noida recorded a marginal decline. Retail fuel prices are revised daily. 

Crude oil prices extended their decline on Wednesday, with benchmark contracts falling for a third straight session as hopes of easing tensions in the Middle East and the potential reopening of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz reduced concerns over supply disruptions. Investors also awaited fresh U.S. inventory data for further clues on global demand. 

Brent crude futures fell 1.16% to $78.44 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 1.5% to $74.63 a barrel. The losses came after Brent tumbled more than 5% On Tuesday, as traders unwound geopolitical risk premiums built into oil prices during the recent conflict. 

Market participants continued to monitor developments around the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route that carries nearly one-fifth of global oil and fuel supplies. Optimism that diplomatic efforts could pave the way for the resumption of tanker traffic through the waterway improved market sentiment, although uncertainty remained after Iran denied reports that negotiations with the United States were underway. 

Meanwhile, investors looked ahead to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly inventory report after industry data showed American crude stockpiles rose by about 2.7 million barrels last week. The official figures are expected to provide fresh insight into demand and supply conditions in the world’s largest oil-consuming nation and could influence the near-term direction of crude prices. 

Petrol Prices 

Petrol prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on Wednesday, with state-owned oil marketing companies keeping retail fuel rates steady in most metro cities and state capitals. Daily fuel prices continue to be revised. 

Among the four metro cities, petrol was priced at ₹102.12 per litre in New Delhi, ₹113.51 in Kolkata, ₹111.21 in Mumbai, and ₹107.76 in Chennai, with Chennai recording a marginal decline of 1 paise. Prices in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai remained unchanged from the previous day. 

Among other key cities, Bengaluru saw the sharpest increase, with petrol prices rising 86 paise to ₹111.68 per litre. Bhubaneswar also recorded a 12-paise increase to ₹108.97, while Noida witnessed a 16-paise decline to ₹101.96. Petrol prices in Lucknow slipped by 3 paise to ₹101.86 per litre. 

Meanwhile, fuel rates were unchanged in several other cities, including Gurgaon (₹102.97), Chandigarh (₹101.54), Hyderabad (₹115.69), Jaipur (₹113.19), Patna (₹113.37) and Thiruvananthapuram (₹115.49). Retail fuel prices vary across states due to differences in value-added tax (VAT), freight charges and local levies. 

Diesel Prices 

Diesel prices remained largely stable across major Indian cities on Wednesday, with state-owned oil marketing companies leaving retail fuel rates unchanged in most metro cities and state capitals. Daily revisions in fuel prices continue. 

Across the four metro cities, diesel was priced at ₹95.20 per litre in New Delhi, ₹99.82 in Kolkata, ₹97.83 in Mumbai, and ₹99.55 in Chennai, with prices remaining unchanged in all four cities compared with the previous day. 

Among other key cities, Bengaluru recorded the biggest increase, with diesel prices rising 79 paise to ₹99.56 per litre, while Bhubaneswar saw a 12-paise increase to ₹100.68. In contrast, Noida witnessed a 12-paise decline, with diesel prices easing to ₹95.44 per litre. 

Meanwhile, diesel prices were unchanged in Gurgaon (₹95.64), Chandigarh (₹89.47), Hyderabad (₹103.82), Jaipur (₹98.25), Lucknow (₹95.36), Patna (₹99.36) and Thiruvananthapuram (₹104.40). Retail fuel prices differ from state to state due to variations in VAT and local taxes.
