Petrol, Diesel Prices Today, August 7: Chandigarh Gets Sharp Cut; Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram See Hikes 

Mumbai, August 7: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely stable across major metro cities. But Chandigarh saw the steepest cuts in both petrol and diesel rates, while Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram saw notable increases.  

Oil prices climbed on Friday, extending the previous session’s gains amid uncertainty over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. 

Brent crude futures rose 1.2% to $83.5 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained 0.98% at $78. The benchmarks had already surged more than $3 a barrel in the previous session. Both contracts remain on track to post weekly losses of around 8%.

The latest rally comes after reports that Iran, in coordination with Oman, is considering restrictions on vessels deemed “hostile” as part of a proposed framework to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. A parliamentary committee is reviewing legislation that could bar U.S. and Israeli ships from using the strategic waterway.  

Although U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that the conflict could end soon, negotiations remain complicated. Regional tensions also persist after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis claimed fresh attacks on Saudi targets. 

Here’s a city-wise look at the latest petrol and diesel prices across India’s metros and key state capitals. 

Petrol Prices 

Petrol prices remained unchanged across several major metro cities on Friday. Chennai saw a marginal decline of ₹0.01 to ₹107.76 per litre. Mumbai also saw a slight reduction of ₹0.10. 

Gurgaon recorded a decline of ₹0.31 to ₹102.97 per litre, while Noida saw a dip of ₹0.16. Lucknow saw a marginal cut of ₹0.03. 

Bengaluru recorded one of the sharpest hikes. Thiruvananthapuram saw the biggest increase among major cities, with prices rising ₹1.30 to ₹115.49, while Jaipur and Bhubaneswar registered increases of ₹0.50 and ₹0.23, respectively. 

On the other hand, some cities witnessed significant price cuts. Chandigarh recorded the steepest decline, with petrol prices dropping ₹4.39 to ₹101.54 per litre. Hyderabad also saw a notable reduction of ₹1.64, bringing the retail price down to ₹115.43 per litre. Petrol prices vary across states due to differences in value-added tax (VAT), local levies and transportation costs. 

Diesel Prices 

Diesel prices were largely unchanged across the country’s major metro cities on Friday. New Delhi continued to retail diesel at ₹95.20 per litre, while prices remained steady at ₹99.82 in Kolkata, ₹99.55 in Chennai, and ₹99.36 in Patna. Mumbai, however, saw a marginal decline of ₹0.14, bringing the price down to ₹97.83 per litre. 

Across the National Capital Region (NCR), diesel prices edged lower. Gurgaon recorded a reduction of ₹0.30 to ₹95.64per litre, while Noida witnessed a ₹0.12 cut, taking the price to ₹95.44 per litre. Diesel prices in Lucknow remained unchanged at ₹95.36 per litre. 

Among other state capitals, Bengaluru registered a ₹0.76 increase, with diesel retailing at ₹99.56 per litre. Thiruvananthapuram recorded the sharpest increase among major cities, with prices rising ₹1.32 to ₹104.40 per litre. Jaipur and Bhubaneswar also saw moderate hikes of ₹0.47 and ₹0.22, respectively. 

On the other hand, Chandigarh witnessed the steepest decline in diesel prices, with a sharp ₹6.35 cut bringing the retail price down to ₹89.47 per litre. Hyderabad also recorded a notable decrease of ₹1.64, taking diesel prices to ₹103.58 per litre. Retail fuel prices continue to differ across states due to variations in value-added tax (VAT), local taxes and transportation costs.
