Mumbai, October 23: Petrol and diesel prices today, October 23, remained unchanged across major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Petrol costs Rs 102.12 per litre in New Delhi, while diesel is priced at Rs 95.20 per litre. Among the cities listed, Hyderabad has the highest petrol price at Rs 116.15 per litre, while Thiruvananthapuram records the highest diesel rate at Rs 104.40 per litre.
Crude oil prices rose in early Asian trading on Friday after surging 4% in the previous session to a five-month high, as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia heightened concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
Brent crude futures rose 0.6% to $113.8 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude advanced 0.7% to $100.2 per barrel. Brent was on track to register its third consecutive weekly gain.
Supply concerns intensified after Saudi Aramco ordered the evacuation of its headquarters in Dhahran as fighting escalated between Saudi Arabia and Yemen-based Houthi militants. The group has advanced towards Bab el-Mandeb, a strategic shipping chokepoint at the entrance to the Red Sea, raising fears of further disruption to energy shipments.
Adding to supply pressures, the shutdown of an oil pipeline valve in Libya reduced production at the Hamada and Tahara oilfields, according to the country’s National Oil Corporation. Meanwhile, the prospect of renewed US-mediated peace talks between Russia and Ukraine offered a potential diplomatic development, although sanctions on Russian energy exports continued to support oil prices.
For India, elevated crude prices remain a concern given the country’s dependence on imported oil. A prolonged rally could increase the import bill, exert pressure on the rupee and add to inflationary risks, while squeezing margins for fuel retailers and raising costs for oil-dependent industries.
