Mumbai, September 17: Fuel prices showed mixed movements across major Indian cities, with petrol rates remaining unchanged in several markets while Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram recorded declines. Chandigarh saw a sharp increase in both petrol and diesel prices, while Bhubaneswar and Jaipur also reported higher fuel rates. Diesel prices remained steady in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, with notable revisions in several other cities.

Oil prices extended their decline on Thursday as concerns over disruptions to Middle East supplies eased after Saudi Arabia offered additional crude cargoes through Oman’s Sohar port. Brent crude edged down 0.09% to $105.7 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude edged down the same to $102.3 a barrel. Both benchmarks had declined by roughly $3 in the previous session.

The latest decline came after Saudi Arabia offered extra crude cargoes via Oman, helping ease concerns over a prolonged supply disruption following attacks on the country’s East-West pipeline and a temporary halt to exports from its Red Sea hub at Yanbu. The additional shipments provided some reassurance to oil markets even as geopolitical risks remained elevated in the region.

The supply outlook remains closely tied to developments in the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia carrying out airstrikes in Yemen and Houthi forces continuing to launch drone attacks. At the same time, the prospect of diplomatic engagement between the United States and China has helped temper some of the market’s concerns over the broader geopolitical and economic outlook.

U.S. inventory data also offered limited support to the bearish move in crude. The Energy Information Administration reported a draw of 640,000 barrels in U.S. crude inventories, smaller than the 1.62-million-barrel decline analysts had expected. The smaller-than-anticipated draw suggested that underlying demand and supply conditions were less supportive than previously forecast.

For Indian markets, crude prices remain a key variable because oil above $100 a barrel can have implications for inflation, the country’s import bill and the rupee. The decline in Brent from recent highs could provide some relief, although prices remain elevated and sensitive to any fresh disruption to Middle East supply.

Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained unchanged in New Delhi at 102.12 a litre, while Kolkata also held steady at 113.51. In Mumbai, petrol was priced at 111.18, down 3 paise, while Chennai saw a 1-paise decline to 107.76 a litre. Gurgaon recorded no change at 102.97, while Noida’s petrol price fell 7 paise to 101.89.

Among other major cities, Bengaluru recorded one of the sharper declines, with petrol prices falling 86 paise to 110.82 a litre. Hyderabad saw a 44-paise reduction to 115.71, while Thiruvananthapuram prices declined 69 paise to 114.80. Petrol in Chandigarh was priced at 103.14, up 1.60 from the previous reading.

Prices moved higher in several other cities. Bhubaneswar recorded a 1.52 increase to 110.49 a litre, while Jaipur saw petrol prices rise 84 paise to 113.50. In Lucknow, the price edged up 3 paise to 101.89. Patna remained unchanged at 113.37 a litre.

Overall, petrol prices showed mixed movements across Indian metro cities and state capitals, with rates largely steady in Delhi, Kolkata, Gurgaon and Patna, while sharper changes were recorded in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar and Jaipur. Retail fuel prices can vary between cities because of differences in local taxes, freight costs and other state-level components.

Diesel Prices

Diesel prices remained unchanged in several major cities, with New Delhi recording a rate of 95.20 a litre. Kolkata’s diesel price stood at 99.82, while Mumbai and Chennai were at 97.83 and 99.55, respectively. Gurgaon also saw no change at 95.64, while Noida’s rate declined 7 paise to 95.37 a litre.

Bengaluru recorded a notable decline, with diesel prices falling 79 paise to 98.77 a litre. Hyderabad saw a 39-paise reduction to 103.84, while Thiruvananthapuram’s rate declined 76 paise to 103.64. In Lucknow and Patna, diesel prices remained unchanged at 95.36 and 99.36, respectively.

Prices increased in several cities, with Chandigarh witnessing the sharpest rise of 6.31, taking its diesel price to 95.78 a litre. Bhubaneswar recorded a 1.47 increase to 102.15, while Jaipur’s diesel price rose 72 paise to 98.50.

Overall, diesel prices showed mixed movements across metro cities and state capitals, with rates unchanged in several major markets while Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram recorded declines. The steep increase in Chandigarh and higher prices in Bhubaneswar and Jaipur stood out among the upward revisions.
