Mumbai, September 9: Petrol and diesel prices remained largely stable across major Indian cities on Wednesday, although select state capitals and southern markets saw notable daily changes. While fuel rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon and Noida were unchanged, petrol and diesel prices moved sharply in cities including Bangalore, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram.

Oil prices climbed more than 1% in early trade on Wednesday, extending gains for a fourth consecutive session as renewed military strikes across the Middle East heightened concerns over disruptions to crude supplies.

Brent crude futures rose 1.6% to $99.5 a barrel while US West Texas Intermediate crude was also up the same at $94.5 a barrel. Brent has now risen around 25% since early August and is closing in on the psychologically important $100-a-barrel threshold.

The latest jump came after the conflict intensified on Tuesday, with Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen launching strikes on several Saudi cities. The escalation followed US attacks on Iranian oil tankers, while Iran targeted a US base in Jordan, raising fears that the conflict could further disrupt energy infrastructure and key shipping routes in the region.

Analysts said the latest developments have increased the risk premium embedded in oil prices, with the prospect of renewed peace talks appearing increasingly distant. Attacks on Saudi energy facilities and the destruction of Iranian tankers have added to concerns about a prolonged disruption to crude supplies, while any sustained attacks on Saudi Arabia could complicate efforts to maintain exports through regional shipping routes.

The continued rise in crude comes as markets remain sensitive to the economic impact of higher energy costs. A sustained move above $100 could add to inflationary pressures globally and complicate expectations around interest-rate cuts, while also increasing the burden on major oil-importing economies such as India.

Here are the latest petrol and diesel prices across major metro cities and state capitals in India.

Petrol Prices

Petrol prices remained largely stable across major Indian cities, with New Delhi at 102.12 per litre, unchanged from the previous day. Mumbai also retained its petrol price at 111.21, while Gurgaon and Noida were steady at 102.97 and 102.12, respectively. Kolkata saw a marginal increase of 1 paise to 113.51 per litre.

Among southern cities, Chennai recorded a 20-paise increase, taking petrol to 107.94 per litre. Bangalore saw a sharper rise of 75 paise to 111.68, while Hyderabad edged lower by 3 paise to 115.69. Petrol in Thiruvananthapuram increased by 79 paise to 114.80.

In western and central India, petrol prices moved in both directions. Jaipur registered the steepest increase among the listed cities, rising 81 paise to 113.50 per litre. Bhubaneswar, meanwhile, saw petrol prices fall 36 paise to 108.97. Chandigarh remained unchanged at 101.54 per litre.

Prices also declined in several northern and eastern markets. Lucknow cut petrol prices by 53 paise to 102.26, while Patna saw a 56-paise reduction to 113.37 per litre. Overall, petrol prices showed limited movement across most major markets, with Bengaluru, Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram among the cities recording the biggest increases.

Diesel Prices

Diesel prices remained unchanged in several major markets, with New Delhi at 95.20 per litre, while Mumbai stood at 97.83 and Kolkata at 99.82. Gurgaon and Noida also reported no change, with diesel prices at 95.64 and 95.56 per litre, respectively. Chandigarh continued to have one of the lowest rates at 89.47 per litre.

In southern markets, diesel prices moved higher in most cities. Bangalore recorded the steepest increase, with prices rising 76 paise to 99.56 per litre. Thiruvananthapuram saw a 74-paise increase to 103.64, while Chennai’s diesel price rose 16 paise to 99.71. Hyderabad was almost unchanged, with a marginal 1-paise decline to 103.82.

In western and eastern markets, Jaipur saw diesel prices rise 72 paise to 98.50 per litre. Bhubaneswar, however, recorded a 34-paise decline, bringing the price down to 100.68. The movements remained mixed across state capitals, with prices reflecting local tax structures and other state-level factors.

Diesel prices declined in Lucknow and Patna, falling 43 paise and 55 paise, respectively. Diesel in Lucknow was priced at 95.75 per litre, while Patna stood at 99.36. Overall, prices remained stable across most major northern markets, while sharper movements were seen in select southern and western cities.
