Mumbai, October 23, 2025: The share price of Punjab National Bank (NSE: PNB, BSE: 532461) climbed over 2% to ₹120.02 in Thursday morning’s trade, following the lender’s announcement that it has divested a portion of its stake in Canara HSBC Life Insurance Company Ltd. through an offer for sale during the insurer’s initial public offering.

Stake Sale Details

According to the company’s filing, PNB reduced its holding in Canara HSBC Life from 23% to 13%, generating a cash consideration of ₹1,007 crore by selling 9.5 crore shares at ₹106 per share. The stake was sold to public investors through the IPO, and the transaction does not qualify as a related-party transaction.

For FY25, Canara HSBC Life delivered strong financial results with a net worth of ₹1,516.90 crore. The company recorded a total income of ₹10,725.90 crore and total expenses of ₹10,597.80 crore. Its profit before tax stood at ₹128.10 crore, while profit after tax was ₹117 crore.

PNB stated that the divestment aligns with its long-term strategic objective of optimising its capital structure and unlocking value from non-core investments.

Market Performance

At 1:45 PM IST, PNB shares were trading at ₹118.84, a gain of 0.99%, intra-day high of ₹120.20 and a low of ₹118.07 so far. The volume traded was 1.02 crore shares, and the turnover was ₹122.13 crore. PNB had a market cap of ₹1.38 lakh crore and a free-float market cap of ₹41,220 crore.
