Mumbai, October 28, 2025: Reliance Jio further solidified its lead in India’s telecom market in September 2025, with its user base surpassing 50 crore for the very first time. This is according to recent statistics from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Jio Maintains Dominance Across Segments

The leading telecom company added 32.49 lakh new mobile users and 2.13 lakh new wireline subscribers in the month to take its total to more than 50.64 crore. This milestone was driven primarily by continued expansion in its fixed wireless broadband and mobile segments.

BSNL Ahead of Airtel in Mobile Additions

State-run BSNL continues to lead in mobile users gained over Bharti Airtel, which had 4.37 lakh new subscribers in September and had a total of 5.24 lakh. There were a total of 108.85 crore reported active wireless users in the country.

Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi), MTNL, and Reliance Communications all continued to lose subscribers. Vi had the largest drop with a loss of 7.44 lakh users, while MTNL shrank by 56,928, and RCom lost 13 subscribers.

Wireline Segment: Jio Leads, Airtel Follows

In the wireline category, Reliance Jio maintained its top position, followed by Bharti Airtel, which added 97,383 new users. Reliance Communications added 6,456 wireline connections. On the downside, Tata Teleservices saw the most significant decline, losing 1.63 lakh users, followed by MTNL (32,930), APSFL (19,049), Quadrant (1,733), BSNL (3,110), and Vi (3,125).

Broadband Subscribers Near 100-Crore Mark

India’s total telecom subscriber base edged up to 122.89 crore in September, with 118.23 crore wireless and 4.66 crore wireline customers. The broadband user base rose 0.5% to reach 99.56 crore, nearing the 100-crore milestone. The wireless broadband segment accounted for 95.12 crore users, while 4.44 crore came from wireline connections.

Reliance Jio remained the market leader in broadband with 50.54 crore subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel (31 crore), Vi (12.77 crore), BSNL (3.47 crore), and Atria Convergence (23.4 lakh). Collectively, the top five broadband players commanded 98.5% of India’s total broadband market as of September 2025.
