New Delhi, Aug 21: Silver prices in India were largely stable on Friday, pausing after climbing sharply for two straight sessions through Thursday. Today’s national rate for silver stands at ₹2,551 per 10 grams, ₹25,510 per 100 grams, and ₹2,55,100 per kilogram. On a per-gram basis, that works out to ₹255.10, marginally higher than ₹255 a day earlier.
The move marks a gain of just ₹1 per 10 grams, ₹10 per 100 grams, and ₹100 per kilogram over Thursday’s national rate of ₹2,550 per 10 grams, ₹25,500 per 100 grams and ₹2,55,000 per kilogram — equivalent to a per-gram rise of ₹0.10. In percentage terms, that puts Friday’s move at barely 0.04%, a sharp slowdown from Thursday’s near-4% jump and among the calmest sessions silver has recorded in India this month.
Silver price in India is determined largely by international prices, which move in either direction depending on global industrial demand, investment flows and mining supply. Currency movement also plays a part: if the rupee weakens against the dollar while international silver prices hold steady, the metal tends to become costlier in India. Friday’s near-flat move suggests global prices and the rupee both held roughly steady overnight, in contrast to the tailwinds that drove Thursday’s rally.
Dealers said Friday’s pause in silver mirrored a similar consolidation in gold prices, with both precious metals holding largely steady after Thursday’s sharp, safe-haven-driven rally. Silver continues to trade more volatile than gold on a percentage basis, and traders said the metal’s near-term direction will likely hinge on fresh cues from the US Federal Reserve and any further escalation in US-Iran tensions, alongside industrial demand from electronics and solar-panel manufacturers.
Market participants added that silver continues to draw interest from retail investors looking for a lower-cost alternative to gold, and Friday’s steadier pricing may offer a more comfortable entry point after Thursday’s sharp climb. City-Wise Silver Rates: Thursday vs Friday
The table below sets Thursday’s (Aug 20) silver rates for 10 major Indian cities against Friday’s (Aug 21) rates, quoted per 10 grams, with the day-on-day change alongside. The city-wise gain was uniform at ₹1 per 10 grams across all ten markets, meaning the relative pricing gap between cities held steady. Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala continue to command the highest silver rates nationally at ₹2,601 per 10 grams, while Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad are quoted marginally lower at ₹2,551 per 10 grams.

On a per-kilogram basis, Friday’s rates translate to ₹2,60,100 in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala, and ₹2,55,100 in the remaining seven cities, up just ₹100 across the board from Thursday’s levels. Retail buyers are reminded that these are indicative bullion rates, and actual prices at silverware and jewellery counters will typically include additional making charges and applicable GST.
Market watchers said Friday’s pause in both gold and silver points to a broader consolidation across precious metals markets after Thursday’s sharp, safe-haven-driven rally, rather than a reversal in either metal’s uptrend. With silver’s industrial demand base adding an extra layer of price sensitivity compared with gold, dealers expect the white metal to remain more volatile in the sessions ahead, and advised buyers with near-term purchase plans to track rates closely.
Historically, silver has traded at a small fraction of gold’s price per gram, and Friday’s near-flat move did little to change that broad relationship even as both metals held steady together. Analysts tracking the gold-silver ratio said the pause in both metals suggests markets are digesting Thursday’s macro-driven rally rather than reacting to any silver-specific supply disruption or demand shock. That said, silver’s added industrial-use component means it can occasionally decouple from gold during periods when manufacturing or green-energy demand shifts independently of investment sentiment.
