Sumax Engineering IPO received a mixed response on the opening day, with the ₹53.40 crore issue subscribed 0.79 times by 11:15 AM on August 25. Retail investors led the bidding with 1.50 times subscription, while the NII portion was subscribed 0.33 times and the QIB portion remained at 0.00 times.

Mumbai, August 25: The Sumax Engineering IPO opened for subscription on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with investors showing a stronger appetite in the retail segment during the first day of bidding. As of 11:15 AM, the issue had been subscribed 0.79 times, with bids coming in for 28.50 lakh shares against 35.85 lakh shares available for public subscription.

Retail investors were the biggest contributors to the demand so far. Their portion was already 1.50 times subscribed, while the Non-Institutional Investors (NII) category had reached 0.33 times. The QIB portion, excluding the anchor allocation, was still at 0.00 times at the time of the latest update.

The retail category received bids for 25,36,800 shares against 16,92,000 shares on offer, pushing its subscription to 1.50 times. The segment had recorded 1,057 applications by the reported time.

The NII category, on the other hand, had received bids for 2,37,600 shares against 7,27,200 shares offered. Within the segment, applications of less than ₹10 lakh were subscribed 0.52 times, while the portion for bids above ₹10 lakh stood at 0.23 times.

The QIB category was yet to see bidding activity in the ex-anchor portion and remained at 0.00 times.

Overall, 28,50,000 shares had been bid for across categories, against 35,85,600 shares available for subscription, resulting in the overall 0.79 times subscription figure.

Sumax Engineering IPO Details

Sumax Engineering is looking to raise ₹53.40 crore through the public issue. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of 40,28,400 shares worth ₹43.34 crore and an offer for sale of 9,96,000 shares amounting to ₹10.06 crore.

The company has fixed the IPO price band at ₹95 to ₹101 per share. The minimum application size is 1,200 shares, which means a retail investor applying at the upper price of ₹101 would need ₹1,21,200 for one lot.

For HNI investors, the minimum application is three lots, or 3,600 shares, requiring an investment of ₹3,63,600 at the upper end of the price band.

The Sumax Engineering IPO opened on August 25 and will remain open until August 28, 2026. The shares are proposed to list on the NSE SME platform on September 2, 2026, based on the tentative timetable.

Sumax Engineering IPO Issue Reservation

After accounting for the market-maker allocation, the net offer to the public stands at 50,20,800 shares.

The QIB category has been allocated 24,09,600 shares, representing 49.90% of the net issue. NII investors have a reservation of 7,27,200 shares, or 15.06%, while retail investors have the largest public allocation at 16,92,000 shares, accounting for 35.04%.

The issue also carries a separate reservation of 1,92,000 shares for employees. Another 2,66,400 shares have been reserved for the market maker.

Sumax Engineering IPO Anchor Investors

Before the IPO opened for public subscription, Sumax Engineering raised around ₹14.50 crore from anchor investors.

The anchor portion comprises 14,35,200 shares, with the anchor bidding taking place on August 21, 2026. These shares represent 27.14% of the total issue size.

The anchor lock-in period for 50% of the shares ends on September 27, 2026, while the remaining shares are subject to the longer lock-in period ending on November 26, 2026.

With two more days left before the issue closes, the subscription picture can still change quite a bit. The retail portion has already crossed the one-time mark, but demand from QIBs and NIIs will be crucial in determining where the IPO finishes on the final day.

Conclusion

The Sumax Engineering IPO got off to a relatively uneven start on Day 1. The overall issue was subscribed 0.79 times, but retail investors clearly showed the most interest, taking their portion to 1.50 times subscription.

The NII category still has some catching up to do, while QIB participation was yet to begin in the ex-anchor portion at the time of the update. With the IPO remaining open until August 28, investor demand over the next two sessions will be key.

For now, the opening-day numbers point to healthy retail interest but a wait-and-watch approach from larger investor categories.
