Tata Steel shares up by more than 2%; markets start the day on a mixed note

Indian equity markets have started the day, today, more on a mixed note. After starting in green, markets are seeing gains getting reversed. At 10 a.m. IST, 9^th October, 2025, Nifty 50 is up by 5.40 points or 0.022%. Sensex is down by 9.27 points or 0.011%.

Top gainers & losers

Top 3 gainers at Nifty 50 at this time are Tata Steel, Dr. Reddy’s and JSW Steel. Top 3 losers are Power Grid, Eicher Motors, and Bajaj Finance. Tata Steel’s share price is up by 2.59%, trading at Rs 176.40. European Union is considering reducing its tariff-free steel import quota by 47% to 18.3 million tons annually. Any steel imported above the tariff-free quota may have 50% import duty imposed. Tata steel’s Netherlands subsidiary may benefit from this move. Steel produced at its Ijmuiden plant will get comparative advantage against steel imported from outside EU, if the proposed tariffs come into force.

Among sectoral indices, Nifty Metal index is the top gainer at this time. It is up by 1.26%. Some pharma stocks are also gaining today, with Nifty Pharma index up by 1.17%. Nifty Auto index is the top loser, among sectoral indices, at this time. It is down by 0.56%.
