Mumbai, August 17: Shares of Vodafone Idea, Motisons Jewellers, PhysicsWallah and Embassy Office Parks REIT were among the most actively traded stocks on the NSE by volume on Monday, with investors reacting to company-specific developments ranging from turnaround plans and quarterly earnings to block deals. Vodafone Idea led the list despite falling 2.34%, while PhysicsWallah gained 5.62% after reporting a sharp narrowing in its June-quarter loss. Embassy Office Parks REIT declined 2.60% following a large block transaction, while Motisons Jewellers slipped 0.60% as investors booked profits after its recent rally.
Vodafone Idea Limited (down 2.34%)
Shares of Vodafone Idea came under profit booking on Monday, after gaining in the previous session as investors assessed the telecom operator’s ambitious three-year turnaround roadmap focused on network expansion, revenue growth, stronger cash generation and a recovery in market share.
The company outlined plans last week to invest ₹45,000 crore in its network over the next three years, while targeting double-digit revenue growth and a threefold increase in cash EBITDA. The strategy has renewed investor interest in Vodafone Idea’s recovery prospects after years of financial stress.
Vodafone Idea CEO Abhijit Kishore had said the company is confident of executing its three-year plan, backed by continued promoter support and ongoing discussions with lenders. The telecom operator is looking to strengthen its financial position while significantly improving network quality and closing the gap with larger rivals Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
Network expansion is central to the strategy, with Vodafone Idea planning to accelerate its 4G rollout by adding around 3,500 sites every month. The company expects to complete 4G expansion across 17 key circles within approximately 18 months.
The operator also plans to expand its 5G footprint to more than 200 additional cities over the next two quarters, as it seeks to improve coverage and service quality across key markets.
Funding remains critical to Vodafone Idea’s turnaround plans. The company is in discussions with both public and private sector banks as well as overseas lenders to secure additional financing for its network expansion and other requirements.
Vodafone Idea has already secured a ₹6,400-crore funding tranche and is working to raise additional capital. The company has also placed network equipment orders worth around ₹9,000 crore, with deliveries and deployment expected over the next two quarters or earlier.
The ability to secure the remaining funding will be closely watched by investors, given the scale of investment required to improve the operator’s competitive position.
Vodafone Idea’s network investment is aimed at improving service quality, reducing subscriber churn and attracting new users.
A stronger network could help the telecom operator improve customer retention while creating room for higher-value plans and better monetisation. However, the success of the strategy will ultimately depend on whether higher capital expenditure translates into sustained subscriber additions and stronger revenue growth.
The latest management commentary follows Vodafone Idea’s first-quarter results, in which the company reported a narrower loss, helped in part by an improvement in average revenue per user.
Vodafone Idea remains India’s third-largest telecom operator and has been attempting to rebuild its business following years of financial pressure. The government’s conversion of dues into equity has also made it the company’s largest shareholder.
The turnaround story is now dependent on a combination of improved operating performance, fresh financing and large-scale network investment. While recent developments have strengthened investor sentiment, the company still faces significant execution and funding challenges.
For investors, the key question will be whether Vodafone Idea can convert its planned network investments into higher subscriber additions, lower churn, stronger revenue and improved cash generation.
The company must also raise the remaining capital required to execute its expansion plans while maintaining sufficient liquidity to meet its financial obligations.
Until these improvements become visible in the company’s operating and financial metrics, Vodafone Idea’s turnaround will remain a work in progress. The three-year roadmap provides a more optimistic outlook, but its success will ultimately be judged by execution and the pace at which network investments translate into a sustainable recovery in market share and profitability.
Motisons Jewellers Limited (down 0.60%)
Shares of Motisons Jewellers declined on Monday as investors booked profits following a recent rally after the jewellery retailer reported a strong performance for the June 2026 quarter. The company posted a 37.61% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹11.05 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹8.03 crore in the same quarter a year earlier.
Motisons Jewellers also reported healthy growth in revenue, with sales increasing 23.30% to ₹107.33 crore in the June quarter from ₹87.05 crore in the corresponding period last year.
The combination of double-digit revenue growth and a faster increase in profit strengthened investor sentiment towards the stock and supported its upward movement in recent sessions. Monday’s decline, however, indicated some profit booking after the gains.
The June quarter marked a positive start to FY27 for Motisons Jewellers, with the company benefiting from sustained demand across its jewellery categories. Its product portfolio includes gold, diamond, kundan, silver and platinum jewellery, allowing it to cater to multiple consumer segments.
The strong quarterly performance has also shifted investor attention towards the sustainability of the company’s growth trajectory. With revenue expanding at a healthy pace and profit growth outstripping sales growth, investors will be watching whether the company can maintain this momentum through the rest of FY27.
Going ahead, revenue growth, operating margins, consumer demand and jewellery-buying trends are likely to remain key factors influencing Motisons Jewellers’ performance.
The stock’s recent rally reflects increased optimism following the strong Q1 results, but investors are likely to seek further evidence that the improvement in sales and profitability can be sustained over the coming quarters. Continued earnings growth and healthy demand will be crucial for supporting the stock’s valuation after its recent gains.
Physicswallah Limited (up 5.62%)
PhysicsWallah shares rose on Monday after the edtech company reported a sharp improvement in its June 2026 quarter performance, with its consolidated net loss narrowing to ₹77.5 crore from ₹120 crore in the year-ago period. The stock gained after the company reported stronger revenue growth alongside a reduction in losses, encouraging investors about its progress towards improving profitability.
The narrowing loss, alongside double-digit revenue growth, helped strengthen sentiment towards the stock.
The company continues to focus on scaling its education platform while improving operating efficiency.
The reduction in losses comes as the edtech company continues to pursue growth while working towards greater profitability.
The Q1 performance suggests that the company is making progress in balancing expansion with cost discipline. However, investors will continue to track whether the improvement can be sustained as the company invests in expanding.
The company’s ability to grow revenue while narrowing losses will remain a key focus for investors. The strong Q1 numbers triggered buying interest in the stock, with PhysicsWallah shares gaining during Monday’s trading session.
The market’s reaction reflects optimism over the company’s improving financial metrics, particularly the combination of 24% revenue growth and a significantly narrower net loss. However, investors are likely to remain focused on the company’s ability to maintain growth and move towards sustainable profitability in the coming quarters.
Embassy Office Parks REIT (down 2.60%)
Units of Embassy Office Parks REIT declined on Monday after large block deals involving 5.66% equity changed hands, with investors tracking a potential stake sale by private equity investor Bain Capital.
