Mumbai September, 02: UltraTech Cement Limited plans to scale up its electric vehicle fleet to more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026, as the cement maker expands the use of cleaner transport across its supply chain.

The company said it has signed service contracts with leading electric vehicle prime mover manufacturers, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, along with their subsidiaries and other logistics providers.

The trucks will be used to transport clinker and other key materials across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. Together, the fleet is expected to move around 5 million tonnes of material annually.

UltraTech estimates that replacing diesel-powered transportation with the electric fleet could reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,17,000 tonnes and displace the equivalent of about 39 million litres of diesel each year.

Stock Market Snapshot

UltraTech Cement shares were trading at ₹11,187, down ₹213 or 1.87%, as of 11:22:37 AM IST on September 2, 2026, according to the market data provided.

Electric Fleet Targets Lower Diesel Dependence

UltraTech said the latest initiative builds on its earlier efforts to introduce cleaner transportation into its operations. The company began deploying CNG trucks in 2021 and electric trucks in 2024 and currently operates more than 850 trucks as part of its green logistics operations.

The planned addition of more than 600 electric trucks will extend this programme across the company’s wider supply chain. The vehicles are expected to support both mine-to-plant movement and inter-plant transportation of clinker and other materials.

UltraTech Managing Director K C Jhanwar said the company is extending its sustainability efforts beyond its plants by adopting greener logistics solutions, with the electrification programme aimed at reducing emissions across its value chain.

UltraTech Has 200 MT+ Cement Capacity In India

UltraTech is the flagship cement company of the Aditya Birla Group and operates more than 200 MT per annum of grey cement capacity in India, according to the company’s release.

The company said its logistics network is among the largest in the country’s cement sector, making transportation a significant part of its operational footprint. The shift towards electric trucks is therefore aimed at addressing emissions associated with the movement of materials across that network.

UltraTech’s latest initiative adds to its broader decarbonisation efforts. The company has also committed to the Net Zero Concrete roadmap announced by the Global Cement and Concrete Association.

Conclusion

UltraTech Cement is set to deploy more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026 as it expands the electrification of its logistics operations.

The fleet is expected to transport about 5 million tonnes of clinker and other materials each year and could reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,17,000 tonnes, while replacing the equivalent of around 39 million litres of diesel consumption.

Shares of UltraTech Cement were trading at ₹11,187, down 1.87%, as of 11:22:37 AM IST on September 2, 2026, according to the market data provided.
