US equity markets slip as concerns about the state of economy increase

US equity markets ended the day in red yesterday, 22nd October, 2025. Nasdaq ended the day, down by 213.27 points or 0.93%. Dow Jones ended the day, down by 334.33 points or 0.71%. S&P 500 ended the day, down by 35.95 points or 0.53%. Meta is cutting down 600 jobs in its Artificial Intelligence division. Netflix shares came down by 10.07% yesterday. This, after the company reported September quarter result that was below expectations. Concerns have now increased that the company’s stock is overvalued.
Anxiety in US markets increased after subprime car loan provider PrimeLend Capital Partners filed for bankruptcy. This follows the bankruptcy of two more subprime loan providers, Tricolor and First Brands, in September. These bankruptcies have increased concerns about the state of US economy.
US government imposes sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoi
US government has imposed sanctions on the two biggest Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoi. This may have some impact on Reliance Industries stock today. The company has a contract with Rosneft for buying crude oil from it.
Consumer inflation in UK in September lower than expectations
Euro Stoxx 50 ended the day, down by 47.62 points or 0.84%. Dax ended the day, down by 178.90 points or 0.74%. FTSE 100 closed, up by 88.01 points or 0.93%. This, after consumer price inflation in UK in September came down below expectations at 3.8%.
Nikkei seeing profit booking today
Japan’s Nikkei is seeing profit booking today, after the recent gains. At 8:55 a.m. IST, 23rd October, 2025, it is down by 643.05 points or 1.30%. Hang Seng is up by 52.04 points or 0.20%. South Korean Kospi is up by 13.81 points or 0.36%. Shanghai composite is down by 19.02 points or 0.49%.
Indian equity markets are likely to see a mixed day today. Cues from foreign markets are mostly negative today.
