Mumbai, July 16: ABB India share price surged as much as 10% on Thursday to hit a 52-week high after its Swiss parent reported a robust set of second-quarter results and highlighted strong order momentum from India, reinforcing optimism about the subsidiary’s growth prospects. The rally came despite ABB India yet to announce its own June-quarter earnings, with investors betting that the healthy demand environment would translate into strong domestic performance.
The sharp rally made ABB India one of the top gainers in the capital goods space. As of writing the stock was up 7% at Rs 7,707.
Parent’s earnings drive rally
The immediate trigger for the rally was ABB Ltd’s second-quarter earnings announcement, which exceeded market expectations on the back of resilient demand across its electrification and automation businesses.

More importantly for domestic investors, the global engineering major flagged robust order growth from the India region, highlighting the country as one of its strongest-performing markets.
ABB Ltd reported that orders from the India region jumped 81% year-on-year in the June quarter. The India order figures disclosed by the Swiss engineering major include business generated by both its listed subsidiary, ABB India, and its unlisted operations in the country.
The commentary reinforced expectations that ABB India’s upcoming quarterly results could benefit from healthy order inflows, particularly amid continued investments in power infrastructure, industrial automation and data centres.
Investors viewed the parent’s upbeat outlook as a positive read-through for the listed Indian subsidiary, triggering broad-based buying in the stock.
India remains a key growth market
India has emerged as one of ABB’s fastest-growing markets, supported by sustained government infrastructure spending and rising private-sector capital expenditure.
Demand for electrification, automation and digital industrial solutions has accelerated as companies invest in manufacturing expansion, renewable energy, transmission infrastructure and energy-efficient technologies.
ABB India has steadily benefited from these structural themes, with healthy demand from utilities, railways, process industries, metals, cement, data centres and renewable energy developers.
Analysts believe the country’s long-term investment cycle remains intact, positioning ABB India to continue delivering healthy order inflows over the coming years.
Capital goods sector remains in favour
ABB India’s rally also reflects broader investor optimism towards capital goods and industrial stocks.
The sector has emerged as one of the strongest performers over the past two years, supported by a revival in the domestic capital expenditure cycle, public infrastructure spending and improving private investment.
Companies involved in electrical equipment, automation, engineering and industrial technology have reported healthy order inflows, with investors rewarding businesses that demonstrate strong execution and margin resilience.
The positive sentiment also spilled over to peers, with investors expecting the strong demand environment to benefit other engineering and electrical equipment companies as well.
Earnings in focus
While Thursday’s gains were driven primarily by the parent’s commentary, investors will now shift their attention to ABB India’s own June-quarter earnings.
Market participants will closely watch order inflows, revenue growth, margins and management’s outlook for the remainder of the financial year.
Analysts expect the company’s commentary on demand from data centres, railways, utilities, renewable energy and manufacturing to provide important clues on the sustainability of the current investment cycle.
Execution of existing orders and margin trends will also remain key variables after input cost pressures moderated over recent quarters.
Outlook
The parent’s upbeat commentary has reinforced confidence in ABB India’s medium-term growth prospects, particularly as India continues to emerge as a strategic market within ABB’s global operations.
With strong demand across infrastructure, manufacturing, data centres and renewable energy, analysts expect order inflows to remain healthy in the coming quarters.
The focus now shifts to ABB India’s upcoming quarterly results, where investors will assess whether the domestic business has translated the favourable industry backdrop into higher revenues, robust margins and sustained order growth.
For now, Thursday’s sharp rally suggests investors remain optimistic that ABB India will continue to benefit from the country’s multi-year electrification and industrial automation story.
