Ahmedabad, November 11, 2025: Adani Group has officially entered the Battery Energy Storage Systems sector. The company has secured a pioneer with a new project expected to deliver 1126 MW/3530 MWh. This will be the largest single location-based project in this industry. This move is making it among the world’s largest contiguous BESS projects and the largest single project in India.

Major Milestone in India’s Renewable Journey

The massive project that entails more than 700 BESS containers is slated to be commissioned by March 2026. Adani Group reported that this project will be a major milestone in the Indian renewable energy agenda. It also aimed at enhancing energy security in the country and the provision of 24/7 clean energy.

The project will escalate the process of India moving to low low-carbon economy by enhancing grid reliability, peak load management, and transmission congestion reduction, as well as alleviating solar curtailment. The system will be situated at Khavda, where the largest renewable energy plant in the world is situated. The group will employ the technology of lithium-ion batteries that will be combined with sophisticated energy management instruments to achieve high capacity and efficiency.

An Energy Independence Strategic Jump

Upon completion, the project will enhance the energy shifting and peak load management, which would contribute to the decarbonisation of the power sector. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, who has referred to it as a strategic leap toward energy transition in India, said, “Energy storage is the backbone of a renewable-powered future. This historic project will not only be a global standard but also a step toward ensuring our promise of energy independence and the sustainability of India. The project will help us to provide efficient, clean and affordable energy services at scale.

Through this move into large-scale storage infrastructure, Adani has been added to the list of global energy power players who are investing in modern storage technology, and this move has taken a revolutionary turn in the clean energy development in India.

Ambitious Expansion Plans

The Group, based on this flagship project, has announced an ambitious plan to increase its BESS capacity. Adani expects to include 15 GWh of storage by March 2027, which has a long-term goal of 50 GWh in five years. This growth is an indicator of Adani Group aiming to create a future-proof, resilient energy ecosystem in line with the net-zero goals of India and the global climate goals.

Khavda: Prepared to Become the Largest Renewable and Storage Park in the World

When the Khavda renewable energy plant is completely connected with this BESS project, it will be the largest renewable and storage park in the world. The project highlights the larger objective of the Adani Group to pursue sustainable development and Singaporean leadership of clean energy in the international arena.
