Air India and Air Mauritius have announced an expansion of their codeshare partnership across South Africa, Reunion island, and Madagascar via Mauritius.
Under the extended bilateral agreement, both carriers will now share their designator codes on 17 routes spanning India, Mauritius, Reunion, South Africa, and Madagascar. This move is set to simplify travel for passengers through single-ticket bookings and smoother interline connections.
Air India will now place its ‘AI’ designator code on Air Mauritius-operated flights connecting Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, and Antananarivo in Madagascar. These additions build upon existing codeshare routes between Mauritius and major Indian cities such as Mumbai and Delhi, as well as Reunion Island.
The updated agreement was officially signed by Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, and Kishore Beegoo, Chairman of Air Mauritius. The signing took place on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting being held in New Delhi.
The stronger partnership shows both airlines’ commitment to giving travellers more convenient options across the Indian Ocean and Africa, with Mauritius set to become a key hub for global connections.
