AWL Agri Business has teamed up with Shree Renuka Sugars to take the iconic Madhur sugar brand to a wider audience across India. The partnership strengthens AWL’s packaged foods portfolio and deepens its presence in the branded sugar market, while the stock traded marginally higher.

Mumbai, May 29: AWL Agri Business Limited has entered into a strategic licensing partnership with Shree Renuka Sugars Limited to market and distribute the well-known Madhur sugar brand across India, a move that could further strengthen its fast-growing packaged foods business.
Under the agreement, Shree Renuka Sugars will license the Madhur brand to AWL, which will oversee sales, marketing and distribution of Madhur-branded refined sugar nationwide. The arrangement will operate under a royalty-based structure agreed upon by both companies.
The partnership brings together one of India’s most recognized sugar brands and one of the country’s largest food distribution networks, creating a platform for broader market penetration and stronger consumer reach.
Why This Deal Matters
For AWL, the partnership is more than just a product addition. It represents another step in the company’s ongoing transition from an edible oils leader into a diversified food FMCG player.
Madhur already enjoys strong consumer recall in many Indian households. By adding the brand to its portfolio, AWL gains an established position in the branded sugar segment without having to build a new brand from scratch.
The company believes its extensive distribution infrastructure can help unlock the next phase of growth for Madhur, particularly in markets where branded sugar consumption continues to rise.
At the same time, the collaboration creates opportunities for cross-selling and deeper retail penetration across AWL’s broader food portfolio.
Leveraging One Of India’s Largest Distribution Networks
AWL’s biggest strength lies in its reach.
The company services millions of retail outlets through a nationwide network of distributors, stockists and supply-chain partners. By plugging Madhur into this ecosystem, AWL can significantly increase the brand’s visibility and availability across traditional retail stores, modern trade outlets and other distribution channels.
Industry observers note that in categories such as sugar, where products are often perceived as commodities, distribution strength and brand trust can play a crucial role in driving market share gains.
Stock Market Snapshot
Despite the strategic significance of the partnership, investors largely adopted a wait-and-watch approach.
AWL Agri Business Limited share price were trading at ₹193.50 as of 9:17 a.m. IST on May 29, 2026, up a marginal 0.02% from the previous close.
The limited movement suggests the market may be waiting for greater visibility on how the partnership translates into revenue growth and market share gains over the coming quarters.

Strengthening AWL’s Food Business
Over the past few years, AWL has steadily expanded beyond edible oils into categories such as wheat flour, rice, pulses and other packaged food products.
Adding Madhur complements this strategy by strengthening the company’s presence in another everyday kitchen staple. It also aligns with management’s broader goal of increasing the contribution of higher-margin branded food products to overall revenue.
As consumer demand shifts toward trusted packaged brands, companies with strong distribution capabilities and diversified food portfolios are expected to be well positioned to capture growth opportunities.
Outlook
The Madhur partnership gives AWL an established brand in a large and competitive category while providing Shree Renuka Sugars access to a powerful distribution engine.
Although the stock barely moved following the announcement, the strategic importance of the deal lies in its long-term potential. If AWL successfully leverages its scale and distribution reach, the collaboration could help expand Madhur’s footprint, strengthen AWL’s food business and deepen its presence in India’s growing branded staples market.
