New Delhi, July 9, 2025 – Bharti Airtel Ltd (NSE: BHARTIARTL, BSE: 532454) has announced a strategic agreement with Swedish telecom giant Ericsson to power its FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) services using Ericsson’s core network program. As the demand for broadband and FWA continues to soar across the country, it is a significant step that will help provide better service with a lower footprint and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), thanks to Ericsson’s local packet gateway for FWA.

The move marks a significant expansion in Airtel’s 5G monetisation roadmap and deepens its long-standing relationship with Ericsson.

At 03:20 PM, the stock traded at ₹2021.70 (0.40% down from the previous day’s close).

Strategic Deal to Enhance Airtel’s 5G FWA Offering

Under the new collaboration, Airtel will utilise Ericsson’s Local Packet Gateway (LPG) and high-capacity core infrastructure to deliver faster and more reliable FWA services across India. This builds upon their existing 5G dual-mode core deployment partnership and represents a key milestone in Airtel’s journey toward a unified 5G Standalone (SA) architecture.

“Ericsson’s innovative Packet Core deployment architecture enables critical improvements in network quality and reliability. This rollout is another step in the sustained success of our collaboration,” said Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel.

The Ericsson solution is designed to reduce the network footprint while enhancing total cost efficiency and scalability, elements vital for the large-scale adoption of 5G-powered broadband in India.

Ericsson’s Role in Airtel’s Digital Push

Ericsson’s LPG will help address India’s rising demand for high-speed home and enterprise internet, particularly in underserved regions. The move aligns with Airtel’s goal to utilise FWA as a cornerstone of its digital inclusion strategy.

“We are enabling Airtel’s next wave of 5G monetization through FWA. This partnership is about bridging the digital divide with efficient and inclusive technology,” said Andres Vicente, Head of Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson.

The companies have worked together for over 25 years, spanning 2G to 5G technologies. This latest development signals a renewed focus on high-performance, low-latency wireless broadband.
