Background: Legacy of Airtel Money
Airtel Money first debuted in 2012 under Airtel M Commerce Services Ltd (AMSL). It was among the early movers in mobile-based prepaid payment services in India. Over time, these services were absorbed into Airtel Payments Bank, with Airtel Money Wallet evolving into a full-fledged digital wallet platform.
Currently, the Airtel Money Wallet supports mobile recharges, utility bill payments, and both online and offline transactions via mobile devices, furthering Airtel’s push into digital finance.
Network Expansion and 5G Integration
Parallel to the fintech development, Airtel has reaffirmed its strategic partnership with Ericsson, signing a fresh deal to boost its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) infrastructure. This follows their earlier agreement on deploying a dual-mode 5G Core solution, a move expected to accelerate the rollout of 5G Standalone (SA) services in India.
Ericsson, a long-term partner of Airtel for over 25 years, continues to play a key role in Airtel’s next-gen network evolution.
