US President Donald Trump had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the call US President said that Ukraine and Russia will immediately start ceasefire negotiations. Mr. Putin said that he is willing for a memorandum on a future peace agreement.
Negotiations In Turkey
Last week Ukraine and Russian negotiators had met in Turkey to discuss ceasefire. That negotiation ended without a result. Neither the President of Ukraine nor that of Russia had attended that negotiation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had then called his Russian counterpart to attend the negotiations in Turkey. But President Putin had ignored that call. Before that Mr. Putin had also did not respond to the call of the European Union to go for an immediate 30-day ceasefire.
Ceasefire Will Come As A Relief For Financial Markets Too
During his Presidential campaign in 2024, Mr. Trump had promised that he will end the war in Ukraine as soon as he comes to power. The war between the two countries has now been going on for more than 3 years. It has added significantly to global uncertainty. If the two countries agree to the ceasefire it will come as a relief to financial markets too. It will lower uncertainty and risk. The required rate of return of investors goes up when risk increases due to geo-political conflicts like the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
