Mumbai, June 4: Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices across Indian cities were largely unchanged on Thursday, with just one exception: Chennai revised its CNG rate upward by ₹1.00 per kg to ₹97, joining Hyderabad, Firozabad and Mathura at the top of the national price range. All other cities in the survey — Delhi, Mumbai, Rewari, Gurugram, Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad, Sonipat, Bangalore, Bharatpur and Dewas — held their rates steady for the second consecutive session.
The Chennai revision stands out because it marks the sole movement in an otherwise flat Thursday, arriving a day after Wednesday’s complete across-the-board stability had suggested distribution companies had temporarily paused their cost pass-through cycle. The ₹1.00 hike takes Chennai’s rate to ₹97.00 per kg — matching the highest CNG price in the country and placing it ₹13.91 above Delhi and the NCR, which remain the most affordable markets in the dataset at ₹83.09 per kg.

Within the NCR corridor, CNG prices present a tiered picture: Delhi and NCR at ₹83.09 are the cheapest, followed by Gurugram at ₹88.12, and then Noida and Ghaziabad both at ₹91.70 — a three-tier spread of ₹8.61 within what is effectively one contiguous urban agglomeration, reflecting different distribution company territories across the region.
Placing Thursday’s Chennai hike in its broader context, the city has now absorbed a ₹1.00 per kg increase relative to Wednesday’s level, adding to the cumulative round of city-level revisions rolling through Indian CNG markets since the May 15 fuel price cycle began. Mumbai, by contrast, has held at ₹86.00 through multiple sessions, suggesting its distribution company has, for now, absorbed upstream costs without passing them on. Meerut remains at ₹91.58 — unchanged from Wednesday — and sits in a middle band alongside Noida and Ghaziabad, between the cheaper north Indian markets and the more expensive southern and central Indian cities.
