Mumbai, June 19: Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices held steady across most Indian cities on Friday, June 19, mirroring the unchanged rates recorded on Thursday. Rates in metro cities also remained unchanged for the second consecutive day. Delhi continued to be the cheapest city to purchase CNG in at Rs 83.09 per kg. Mumbai remained Rs 2.91 per kg expensive at Rs 86.00 per kg. Chennai and Bangalore witnessed no change in prices and both cities’ rates remained at Rs 97.00 per kg — highest among metros and Rs 13.91 per kg more expensive than Delhi.
Structurally, city gas distribution companies come under the western pipeline — such as Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which supplies CNG to Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. These cities enjoy lower fuel costs than their counterparts in the southern and eastern regions of the country, driving the price difference.
CNG Prices In NCR/Haryana Cities
Rates in NCR and Haryana cities remained unchanged on Friday. Noida and Ghaziabad were unchanged at Rs 91.70 per kg while Gurugram prices held at Rs 88.12 per kg. Rates in Rewari were unchanged at Rs 87.70 per kg and Sonipat continued at Rs 94.00 per kg. The narrow margins between NCR cities can be attributed to IGL moving CNG prices across all its consumer city clusters by the same amount on the same date.
CNG Prices In Other Cities
CNG prices remained unchanged in all cities outside metro and NCR. Hyderabad rates were unchanged at Rs 97 per kg, while Bharatpur and Mathura prices continued at Rs 97.00 per kg. Dewas and rates held at Rs 96.00 per kg. Uttar Pradesh city Firozabad witnessed no change in prices on Friday and continued at Rs 98.00 per kg. CNG prices haven’t gone down even as crude oil and LNG prices have dropped significantly after US and Iran reached a temporary ceasefire agreement last week. A longer period of lower crude oil prices may, however, lead to some relief on the CNG front going forward.
