Mumbai, June 30: CNG prices were unchanged across all the cities tracked today on Tuesday. None of the city gas distributors announced any price change today after Monday. With rates continuing to be pegged at ₹83.09 per kg in New Delhi, India’s national capital remains the cheapest city to buy CNG in the country. Compared to Mumbai where users pay ₹86.00 for every kg of CNG, Delhi’s prices are nearly Rs 15 cheaper. Rates in NCR satellite cities Noida and Ghaziabad are also higher than New Delhi at ₹91.70 per kg.
Prices remain unchanged in Delhi today as none of the other 14 cities tracked changed their CNG prices either. Energy markets across the globe continued to watch the fragile Iran-U.S. ceasefire unfold. Brent crude oil prices swung wildly through last week as the truce appeared to crumble with both countries exchanging missile and air strikes before agreeing to a ceasefire over the weekend. Volatility in crude prices has made city gas distribution companies wary of changing prices as of late. Most prefer to wait until input costs trend in one direction before announcing a price revision.
Rates in Gurugram are at ₹88.12 per kg while citizens in Rewari refuel their vehicles with CNG at ₹87.70 per kg. Since Noida and Ghaziabad are served by the Indraprastha Gas Limited feeder network, CNG is available at ₹91.70 per kg in both the satellite cities. In Sonipat city gas costs ₹94.00 per kg to refill while CNG in Meerut is priced at ₹91.50 per kg.
Users have to spend ₹97.00 per kg to refill their CNG vehicles in Mathura and Bharatpur. Prices are unchanged in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad at ₹97.00 per kg as well. At ₹98.00 per kg, CNG continues to be the most expensive fuel in Firozabad (UP).
City gas distribution companies determine the price of CNG which is sold to consumers by them. A price change is usually announced by the CGD firm only after its input costs have changed on a sustainable basis or if there’s been a change in domestic gas supply allocation policy or if the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board issues a directive to change price at the pump.
While input prices for city gas distribution firms have remained stable so far this month due to the Iran-U.S. ceasefire, they will likely continue holding off on changing rates until global crude oil prices trend in one direction or the other. If crude continues to soften on expectations of gas flow normalising through the Strait of Hormuz, consumers could see prices reduce at the pump in coming weeks.
