LFP Battery System Replaces Diesel, Cuts Emissions and Boosts Efficiency

The͏ market͏ reacted str͏ongly after Concord’s Advanced Rail Division unve͏iled͏ a ful͏ly ͏domestic lithium iron phosph͏ate (LFP) b͏atter͏y-powe͏red͏ propul͏sion͏ sys͏tem, replacin͏g͏ traditional dies͏el engines.͏ ͏Designed entirely in I͏ndi͏a, the system e͏liminates constant idlin͏g, deli͏vers zero emissions, enha͏nces͏ effici͏e͏nc͏y, and offe͏rs significant fue͏l savings. Key component͏s͏—including DC chopper-based propulsi͏on, Ve͏hicle Control Unit (V͏CU), ͏digital dis͏pla͏ys͏, fibre-optic EMI-i͏mmune communicatio͏n, and advanced dia͏gnostics—are local͏ly devel͏oped, provid͏in͏g scalable solutio͏ns ͏for retrofit͏ting exist͏ing diesel-electric locom͏ot͏i͏ves.

Execs Highlight 100% Indigenous LFP Propulsion System for Green Rail

Mr. Sadasivan V., Advanced Rail Executive Director, commented that the launch is proof of India’s capability to be at the forefront of sustainable transport solutions. “The propulsion system is a testament to India’s capability to go its own way in the future rail. It is a benchmark for sustainable, cost-effective, and self-reliant mobility solutions,” he added.

Summing this up, Joint Managing Director Mr. Nitin Jain emphasized that the achievement is consistent with the nation’s agenda. “In attaining India’s first 100% indigenous zero-emission propulsion system, we are reinforcing the twin aspirations of green mobility and Atmanirbhar Bharat while aiding Indian Railways’ vision of 100% electrification by 2030,” he stated.

700 HP Locomotive Demo Shows Scalable, Cost-Saving Retrofits Potential

The new drive system had already been demonstrated in a 700 HP diesel-electric locomotive with 800A peak current to traction motors and exhibiting functional reliability and scalability. Indian Railways, which operates one of the world’s largest diesel fleets, can utilize the technology as a template for cost-effective modernizations and de-importation. For Concord, the innovation positions it at the forefront of India’s green rail infrastructure revolution. The solution is expected to create new sources of income through retrofitting opportunities, government tenders, and emerging export markets in developing nations looking for cost-effective decarbonisation of rail transport.

Concord Control Systems’ launch of India’s first domestic zero-emission rail propulsion system demonstrates strong technological self-reliance. The locally developed LFP battery-powered drive reduces fuel usage, eliminates idling emissions, and offers scalable retrofitting solutions. This positions the company as a key contributor to Indian Railways’ electrification and green mobility initiatives, while expanding opportunities for domestic innovation and sustainable transport infrastructure.
