In their latest round of sanctions against Russia, European Union and UK have put sanctions on around 350 ships. These ships are said to be part of the shadow fleet of Russia. Shadow fleet means that these ships surreptitiously carry Russian oil across the world in order to circumvent already existing sanctions against Russia. Some of them also transport stolen Ukrainian grains, according to the allegation.
Call For Ceasefire Between Russia And Ukraine
US and European Union have imposed a number of sanctions against Russia since it began its war against Ukraine in 2022. Earlier last week, European Union had asked Russia to immediately enter into a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. But Russian President Vladimir Putin had ignored that call.
US President Donald Trump also had a telephonic conversation with Russian President, Putin yesterday. After the call President Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations for a ceasefire. President Trump had promised during his 2024 election campaign, that he will end the Russia – Ukraine conflict as soon as he comes to power.
After the phone call with President Trump, Russia said that it seeks to develop a framework for future peace. A ceasefire would provide a big boost to global financial markets, that are grappling with heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
