GE Aerospace Announces USD 14 Million Expansion for Pune Manufacturing Facility

Pune, November 20: GE Aerospace has announced that it will invest a fresh amount of USD 14 million in its manufacturing plant in Pune. The investment is aimed at increasing the manufacturing capacity of the plant. With the new funding of USD 14 million, GE Aerospace has invested a total of USD 44 million in the plant in less than two years.
GE Aerospace is a world-leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, systems, and services for commercial, military, business, and general aviation aircraft. The company’s core business involves designing, developing, and manufacturing highly advanced aircraft engines—such as the GEnx and the CFM LEAP.
Investment to Boost Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities
According to the company, the additional investment of USD 14 million will help in modernising and enhancing the Pune plant. It will be done through upgraded manufacturing processes and increased automation. Once the upgradation is completed, it will help the company to increase its production of advanced engine components. The new investment is valued at ₹124 crore at the current exchange rate.
Key Role in Global Engine Programmes
GE Aerospace’s Pune facility manufactures components used in several of GE Aerospace’s leading commercial engines. They include GE90, GEnx, GE9X and LEAP. The LEAP engines are produced by CFM, which is a 50:50 joint venture between GE and Safran.
Strong Supplier Ecosystem and Talent Development
GE Aerospace highlighted that its Pune facility is backed by more than 300 suppliers. Furthermore, the company works with over 2,200 suppliers across India. In the last decade, the company’s Pune plant has trained more than 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing.
Broader Presence in India
Through the Pune plant, the company operates its proprietary FLIGHT DECK lean operations model. Apart from this plant, the company also runs John F. Welch Technology Centre in Bengaluru, which recently completed 25 years.
