Mumbai, October 14: The Indian stock market and all the included indices are expected to open on a steady yet cautious tone today, on October 14. The steady yet cautious tone is indicated by Gift Nifty, which is marginally up by 0.05%, or 12 points, and is currently trading at 25,317. Until now, the index has traded within a range of 25,348 and 25,306.
Late Buying Limited Losses in Sensex and Nifty
Yesterday, on October 13, Sensex and Nifty closed lower. However, late buying limited the losses for a session which witnessed negative volatility throughout the trading session. Sensex closed at 82,327.05, down 173.77 points (0.21%), while Nifty 50 closed at 25,227.35, down 58 points (0.23%).
Broader markets mirrored the performance, with the BSE Midcap index declining 0.2% and Smallcap slipping 0.4%. Selling pressure in IT and FMCG drove the selling pressure even as easing US-China trade tensions and hope around India-US trade progress offered some support.
FIIs Net Sellers, While DII Net Buyers
After days of remaining net buyers, FIIs finally turned net sellers yesterday and sold Indian equities worth ₹240 crore net (Buy ₹8,085 crore, Sell ₹8,325 crore). On the other hand, DIIs provided some support and bought Indian equities worth ₹2,333 crore net (Buy ₹14,960 crore, Sell ₹12,627 crore).
Sharp Rally on Wall Street
Overnight, Wall Street witnessed a sharp rally as Trump communicated his soft sentiments on future tariffs. Dow Jones increased by 1.29% to 46,067.58, S&P 500 by 1.56% to 6,654.72, and Nasdaq by 2.21% to 22,694.61.
Crude Oil Rises, Gold Stays Close to Record High
Crude oil prices rose slightly as easing trade tensions improved investor demand. Both WTI and Brent futures gained nearly 2%. Gold stayed close to its record highs, while silver continued its rally above $52.50 per ounce. The U.S. dollar index remained steady around 99.3, and the 10-year Treasury yield increased to 4.06%.
Steady Yet Cautious Tone Today
The Indian stock market is expected to see a cautious opening, which can go either way. However, mixed global signals and only a mild increase in Gift Nifty indicate that the market may open slightly positively but can witness negative demand throughout the day.
