GIFT Nifty Signals Positive Start for Indian Market Today

Mumbai, September 17, 2025: The Indian stock and included indices are set to open on a positive note today, on September 17. The steady-to-positive note is indicated by GIFT Nifty, which is up by 0.28%, or 71.50 points, and is trading at 25,407.50, as of 8:30 AM. The index has traded between 25,333.00 and 25,408.00.

Sensex and Nifty Closed Higher Yesterday

Yesterday, on September 16, Sensex and Nifty performed well to close higher. Sensex closed at 82,380.69, up 594.95 points (0.73%), while Nifty 50 ended at 25,239.10, gaining 169.90 points (0.68%). Other broader indices also ended higher, with BSE Midcap and Smallcap ending the day with 0.6% increase. India VIX fell to 10.27, down by 1.20 points.

Wall Street Lower While US Bond Yields Jump

In global cues, Wall Street fell due to the upcoming Fed policy outcome, with the Dow Jones falling by 0.27%, S&P 500 by 0.13%, and Nasdaq by 0.07%. Asian equities also started weak and mirrored global caution.

On the other hand, US bond yields increased, with the 10-year at 4.03% and 2-year at 3.5%. The dollar index also showed steady performance but crude oil performed flat. Gold prices sustained near $3,700/oz.

Key Political Cue: India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership

A significant diplomatic cue occurred yesterday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his warm birthday wishes. He also communicated India’s commitment to strengthening the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership. Modi also extended support to Trump for his initiative to peacefully resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

FIIs Net Buyers While DIIs Extended Support

Yesterday, DIIs were net buyers and bought Indian equities worth ₹308 crore. DIIs also extended support and bought Indian equities worth ₹1,518 crore.

Early Gains and Volatility Cooling

GIFT Nifty has indicated that the stock market today may see early gains, and the volatility may ease. However, investors will be closely watching the U.S. Federal Reserve’s rate decision and other intraday cues.
