Mumbai, August 5: Indian benchmark indices are poised for a firm start on Wednesday, tracking strong global cues after Wall Street’s benchmark indices closed at record highs and European shares scaled fresh peaks. Asian markets also traded higher in early trade, buoyed by optimism over artificial intelligence-led corporate earnings and easing geopolitical concerns.
The positive global backdrop is expected to support sentiment on Dalal Street. Investors will now look to the ongoing earnings season, foreign institutional investor (FII) flows and global macroeconomic data for fresh direction.
Asian Markets Trade Higher On Global Risk-On Sentiment
Asian equities advanced on Wednesday, taking cues from Wall Street’s overnight rally. Japan’s Nikkei and South Korea’s Kospi rose 3% and 3.6% respectively as technology stocks tracked gains in U.S. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 2.2%.
Broader investor sentiment improved after stronger-than-expected earnings from AI-linked companies in the US reinforced confidence. Meanwhile, easing crude oil prices and reduced geopolitical tensions also encouraged risk-taking across equity markets.
Wall Street Scales Fresh Records On AI-Fuelled Optimism
U.S. equities ended at fresh record highs overnight, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average touching new closing peaks, while the Nasdaq Composite also finished higher.
Technology stocks remained at the forefront of the rally after AI linked firms Palantir Technologies and Caterpillar issued upbeat forecasts, reassuring investors that demand linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure remains robust.
The results revived confidence in the broader technology sector following recent concerns over whether companies would generate sufficient returns from their massive AI-related investments.
Investors are now awaiting another round of corporate earnings and key U.S. economic data later this week for further clues on the health of the world’s largest economy and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook. Treasury yields remained largely stable, while the U.S. dollar traded in a narrow range against major currencies.
European Shares Rally To Record Highs
European markets also provided strong support to global sentiment, with the pan-European STOXX 600 index ending at a record closing high.
Technology shares mirrored gains seen on Wall Street, while mining stocks also advanced. Corporate earnings updates also aided sentiment, and so did cooling oil prices.
Market participants continued to monitor developments in the Middle East, but signs of easing geopolitical tensions reduced demand for safe-haven assets and boosted appetite for equities.
Corporate earnings remained a driver of market action, with investors rewarding companies that delivered stronger-than-expected profits despite lingering macroeconomic uncertainties.
What It Means For Indian Markets
The combination of record highs in the United States and Europe and a positive trading session in Asia is likely to provide a supportive opening for Indian equities.
Domestic investors will continue to monitor quarterly earnings, institutional fund flows and sector-specific developments for stock-specific triggers. Market participants will also keep an eye on global macroeconomic indicators and Indian central bank commentary today for further clues on the interest-rate trajectory.
A sustained decline in crude oil prices could offer an additional tailwind for Indian equities by easing inflationary pressures and supporting corporate profitability, although volatility around global economic data and geopolitical developments may keep investors cautious through the session.
