Mumbai, July 10: Gold prices in Chennai moved higher on Friday, adding to Thursday’s recovery after the sharp fall seen earlier this week. The latest retail rate for 24-karat gold stands at ₹14,564 per gram, up ₹33 from the previous session.
22-karat gold is priced at ₹13,350 per gram, higher by ₹30, while 18-karat gold saw a sharper rise of ₹90, taking the rate to ₹11,170 per gram. The increase is not large for 24K and 22K gold, but it does suggest that the market has steadied after three sessions of weakness.

Prices Rise After a Volatile Week
Chennai has seen a fairly uneven run in July. The month began with 24K gold at ₹14,455 per gram and 22K gold at ₹13,250 per gram. Prices climbed quickly in the first week, with 24K gold touching ₹14,956 per gram on July 3, the highest rate so far this month.
That rally faded soon after. Rates were flat on July 5 and then dropped on July 6, July 7 and July 8. The recovery started on July 9, and Friday’s update keeps that improvement going, though prices are still well below the July 3 peak.

Chennai Gold Price Trend
The 10-day trend shows that gold prices in Chennai are still above their July opening level despite the mid-week correction. 24K gold moved from ₹14,455 on July 1 to ₹14,956 on July 3, then fell to ₹14,455 on July 8 before recovering to ₹14,531 on July 9 and ₹14,564 on July 10.
For 22K gold, the rate rose from ₹13,250 on July 1 to ₹13,700 on July 3. It later slipped to ₹13,250 on July 8, recovered to ₹13,320 on July 9, and now stands at ₹13,350.
Historical data for July shows both 24K and 22K gold are up 0.75% so far this month. The highest rate was recorded on July 3, while the lowest was seen on July 1.
What Drives Gold Prices?
Gold prices in Chennai are shaped by international bullion rates, rupee-dollar movement, import costs and local jewellery demand. Retail rates can also vary slightly across jewellers because making charges, wastage and billing methods are not the same everywhere.
Conclusion
Gold prices in Chennai rose on July 10, with 24K, 22K and 18K rates all higher than Thursday’s levels. The move extends the short recovery that began after the July 8 drop, although prices remain below the month’s high. For buyers, the quoted rate is a useful reference, but the final bill will still depend on making charges and GST.
